Hogswatch 2011, PhD update!

Postby Renttu » Mon Dec 05, 2011 12:50 pm

Hello everybody!
Thank you all for an awesome event and excellent company!
Some of you might have noticed my scribbling in a notebook during Hogswatch. Do not fear! I was only trying to get some new material for an article for my dissertation.
I 've now dechiffered most of my notes, most is about pickles! There will be an article on the subject of pickle-related culture later in the spring. I have also been asked to write a shorter article in the swedish language conserning: "Doing things for the fun of it".
At the moment I am working on a speech that I, with a bit a luck, will give at the folklore societys annual conferens i Chichester in april. This speech will also be somewhat pickle-related!
I am also happy to tell you that due to the exellent material I got from Hogswatch, there will be a course at my University (Ã…bo Academy University) held by me about fan-culture. This course will be held in english during the autumn of 2012.
I want to thank you all! See you around!
Now (as a treat) to quote (translated into english) my professor (used to describe my pickle-infested rapport): "You have got stunning material! Con grats! now GET TO WORK!
:thumbr:

When is this? And does it allow spectators? Loz, Small and I live in Chichester (West Sussex).

I'd like to come too as Chichester is just 60 mins from work, and 20 mins from my bestest friend
And has the cleverest motto of any city in the UK
"ADHUC HIC HESTERNA"
Using your old computer to shop for a new computer online is rather cruel
It's like asking your dying wife if she has any cute girlfriends

This is especially true of the people of Chichester...

Depending on how this works out, there are some nice places to eat around and abouts - perhaps a meet up is called for?

sounds interesting :) lovely area.

I drove to Bognor Regis the other week to pick up a carpet and that was one evening after work!

I do not know whether or not they allow spectators, they probably do (should ask prof. Simpson about that). If I remember correctly the conferens is the 13-15 of April. If people feel that they want to meet up in Chichester, this could probably be arranged. It is not certain that I get to speak at the conferens. I will submit a paper i January and then wait on an aswer. I'll with 95% certainty be in Chichester for the conferens anyway.

Keep us posted please?

For those who think Chichester is a little far, we have recently acquired a travelodge. For eating there are a couple of really good Indian restaurants, and a lovely chinese buffet.

Putting academical folklorists and a costumed cheering-section ala Wincanton in the same building would probably lead to some of the finest stories ever told. :D
I will keep you all updated on my proposed speech in Chichester! As far as I am concerned, you are all welcome.
