Hogswatch 2014!

Postby TinkerbellThomas11 » Mon Mar 03, 2014 08:34 pm

Hi All,

My brother, sister and I am hoping to send my father to Hoswatch for his 60th Birthday on the 7th of December as he is a life long fan. I understand accommodation will book up quickly so I was wondering when the date would be announced.

Any advice would be much appriciated. :)

Hey there,
The dates are usually announced around the time of the spring event, towards the end of May, it is normally either the last weekend in November7first weekend in december, depending on things. The Bear and The Dolphin are usually booked up as the rooms ar taken by repeat atendees (I for example, will be back in my room at the bear) but you should be able to get rooms at the travellodge , just down the raod, easily enough, I think they have a farly OK cancelation policy.

your best bet if you need definitive dates might be the show try emailing reb (reb at discworldemporium dot com).

Thought there was an announcement at the end of the last one that it would be the last weekend in November - 29th?
Yes it will be in this brown envelope, I know it will.... Oh maybe not

I've tried the bear and the dolphin and as predicted both full!

The travel lodge is also a fair way I'm not sure whether my dad would make it and he would like to make the most of quaffing ale I suspect and parking I should imagine is a nightmare!

It seems this surprise may not be possible at all.

Thank you all for your help it was much appriciated :D

parking near the meorial hall is quite reasonable, plus I should be there and don.t drink, would b happy to run him down, cab should be about six to 8 quid, pm me for details.

The travelodge is only 10 mins walk from the Bear - admittedly uphill in the mornings but downhill in the evenings when gravity assists the over-imbibers

There has also been a great improvement over the last few visits of taxi availability late at night (I vividly recall - well, hazily - my first trip where as a Londoner I was aghast that I couldn't get a taxi at 1am unless I had booked it about twelve hours earlier).

We did Travelodge last year and often lifts were offered by kindly personages up to town.

The Car park behind the co-op in the middle of the high street and close to all pubs for events is FREE
Have you tried the Millars Inn for accommodation or it's also possible to advertise on here and get shares with people - a group of folk normally share some of the holiday cottages around.

Even if he doesnt know anyone then it wont matter -as long as he is prepared to say Hi to folks he will make about 300 new friends who all like Discworld.
The travelodge is really not far away from the town centre at all and other fans staying are sure to offer him lifts as someone else has mentioned on here.
Hope that helps!

Make sure you park in the top carpark as that is long stay. The lower one is short stay only!

Have we a confirmed date yet? (5/6/7th December better by far than 28/29/30th November for quite a few people ...)

5th / 6th / 7th Dec is NOT a good time for me! Too many birthdays to miss. Besides, I have already booked the hotel based on the dates announced after Spring Fling or Hogswatch last year......
