My friend who was supposed to cat/house-sit for me may no longer be able to won't know for certain for another week, but it doesn't look hopeful, which means I can only come down for the day, so my question is would it be better to come on the Friday or the Saturday?

I've been looking at train and bus times and the Waterloo to Templecombe and then the 58 bus from Templecombe to Wincanton seems to be the best option, but open to any suggestions . . .

Sadly the cat's do need a sitter, as one of them is getting on a bit and has dodgy bladder control, so she tends to piddle in random places unless she is monitored closely - which is impossible to do 100% of the time, which means moping up duties are regularly required . . . take it from me, fermented cat pee is not a pleasant odour - you need to get that stuff cleared up sharpish!

So, a day trip on Saturday it is!

I looked into Berry's but their timetable doesn't work with a day trip, sadly, but thankfully the train is quicker and goes in/out of Templecombe once an hour

The train gets into Templecombe at 12.25 and the 58 bus to Wincanton is due at 12.45 and gets to Wincanton Memorial Hall* for 1pm, so I think I'll be alright to get to Wincanton, but I'd really appreciate a lift back to the station if possible?

*I've never been to Wincanton before, so I'm hoping the Memorial Hall is close to the Emporium and at least one pub?!
