Spring Fling 2016

Postby chrisboote » Tue Oct 27, 2015 12:46 am

Never too early to think about this :)
Any weekend decided yet?
Might I suggest April 29-May 2 (BH weekend)?

Yes please, pretty please with honey on top. I will be in England that weekend looking for fellow fans to frolic with.

I think the first question is; do the Emporium want to run a Discworld Event?

I really hope the answer is yes but if not then we are capable of making our own entertainment. Since there's no Hogswatch it would be really great to have a proper Discworld event.

Apparently the publishers are now thinking of holding the official public memorial for Terry around his birthday. That is around the time the Spring Fling generally happens so we would have to make sure the two didn't clash.

Has there been any new information of this?
I'm suffering from a bit of "no-event" blues (slightly different from post-event blues), and am wondering if a trip in the spring would be a good idea.

What I was told before we left Wincanton was that we were having the event over the bank holiday weekend (30th April-2nd May) and that it's another Gathering of the Loonies, entitled "The Spring Thing" rather than an Emporium-run Discworld event.

We'll be away on holiday that week :(

I hope we can make at least some events in 2016 (We have our Con tickets booked, so that's one, at least).

I asked Davina for confirmation of the date as it affects the Drummers calendar. He said that the date has still not been decided.

I love the idea of calling it 'The Spring Thing'.

Even if an event in London did decide to happen the same weekend we could always look at chartering a bus from Wincanton up and down so that both whatever the memorial entails and a weekend of lunacy could co-exist.

It would help if I could book an early flight as the longer I wait the more expensive it will be, I'm stuck with using BA now that Virgin domestic stopped flights to Heathrow.

Is there any reason NOT to just say it will be that Bank Holiday Weekend that SOMETHING will be happening?

I volunteer to write a quiz, and a geek scavenger hunt, with prizes...
