Costuming!

Postby Nonny Mouse » Fri Jun 01, 2012 05:29 am

Okay, so, I have my witch outfits and my ball gowns and combinations thereof. Now, inspired by the recent ComiCon, my next costume project is going to be: Steampunk!

I'm new at this style, although I've seen a lot and there's only about a million websites on the topic. I am likely have a basic outfit by DWCON, although it will take me probably a year to acquire all the embellishments and accessories I'd like. But it's a new style and I've found an idea I like - a steampunk version of Miss Scarlet from Clue. Because... the dress I want is red. (Yes, sometimes I am that simple.)

Anyway, what costume stuff is everyone else up to, if any?

I shall be doing a hall costume for the first time this Con, which will involve a LOT of body paint, and possibly a Maskerade entry.

I'm putting together a steampunk costume too :) The secret is in accessories, I think :) Search the thrift stores! :)

I have an old leather purse I can convert to steampunk pretty cheaply, I think. And hats are easy to decorate. So I'll have something passable, only I have elaborate visions that will take time to acquire. You know, laser guns and brass opera glasses. Medals and rings made of gears in the shape of a rose. Parasols and fans. But it's a fun project, and there's always new ideas out there :D

I really wanted to find some goggles but they all seem to be so expensive <.< Laser guns, forget about it! :P

Thankfully I know someone who owns a vintage shop and have been collecting various bits for a while.

Thanks! But I don't think I need medals, yet. Miss Scarlet will be a femme fatale who works as an L-space librarian.

Fun, anyway :D

Like I said, I don't know how much I'll have ready by the Con, but it's fun to have a work in progress.

incidently mazzie if your after a pair of goggles you can probobly find a cheap pair on websites or in shops catering to wood carvers/stonemasons/hobbyists of that ilk. they'll need converting obviously, but thats the fun bit.

ahh, lemme guess, elf or feegle? :D

as for me , weeeeel, theres there the elf queen dress from science of discworld: the globe, the margolotta dress i wasnt able to finish last time, and the dragon thingy for hall costumes, the kimono emsemble for the hedgehog and dead monkey partys, and the anti-gala dinner dress. Along with 2 corsets, 1 farthgale, 1 big petticoat and other nessesary stuff, pluss a load of unnesessary stuff that i'll chuck in at the last minute while paniking. so if anyones got a tardis going spare..... 8)

Mazzie, Steampunk Emporium has them for $16 to $25 which is not bad for a costume piece.
