And love the film. If I wasn't already going that would have turned it for sure. *snicker*

Got the newsletter and Sandra wanted me to book and pay for her Gala dinner ticket before we forgot. (As I am unable to fly and I have to babysit the Parrot that weekend I am not coming unfortunately)

I was surprised that PayPal used the exchnage rate of 1.37 Euros to the pound on Weds when on Monday it was 1.14!!!

It seemed that Greece has completely upset the apple cart and the Euro has collapsed overnight and the market rate is now 1.41 and PayPal and travelex are using around 1.37/1.38 (depending on how much you buy)

After having a chat and looking at our situation we have decided to get enough Euros for Sandra to pay for her hotel bill etc for the whole weekend now rather than wait as it will be quite a saving.

Don't know if anybody can afford to do it but I thought I would let you all know as the news reports on Greece I have seen haven't mentioned this yet and it will most likely sort itself out soon.

Somewhere in this forum is a discussion about going to see Weird Al Yankovic after IDWCON but I'm buggered if I can find it! You'd think with a name like that it'd turn up in a search.
My next project is a book in which I explore the influence of the music of Beyonce on the writings of J R R Tolkien. It's called "It you write it, you have to put a ring in it"

My mistake - 'twas Facebook!

Anyway - I got two tickets for Weird All in Dublin on Tuesday October 6th, the day after the Convention but Jan now has a meeting in Manchester on the 5th so can't come. So at least one, and probably two tickets will be available. Anyone interested?

Yes
[regarding Alan Rickman] He had Tim Curry's ability to save the day by putting literally all the scenery in his mouth and gnawing on it like a deranged woodchuck.

Anyone got any insight into Convention start and finish times? I'm looking at flights and I'd hate to miss anything. OTOH I don't want to give the hotel an extra night's rent for no reason!

Tickets purchased! We fly in Friday morning. Jan has to leave on Sunday evening, but I'm staying until late afternoon on Monday (7pm flight to Manchester, if anyone wants a lift).

IDWCon 2015 memberships going begging

Postby Jan Van Kverm » Tue Aug 04, 2015 12:16 pm

Am having an Annus 'orribilis & due to a death in the family and ill health now find myself unable to attend this time around...

Soooooooo - I have 2 memberships which altogether cost me €100 (£70) and 1 Gala Dinner ticket €40 (£28) up for grabs, in any combination, if anyone's interested (o.n.o's accepted within reason)! :thumbl:
The dates are 2nd - 5th October 2015 at the Cork International Hotel (at the Airport) - first come first served, preferably before the end of this month so the committee can amend the membership database for you. PM me & Paypal is entirely possible ;)

Dear fans and fellow convention goers

As you've probably noticed, it is just over a month until the start of the Irish Discworld Convention 2015. For many of you it will be the first major event without the Creator, and while we want the weekend to be a joyous event, we will no doubt have an undercurrent of loss.

So we have arranged an activity called "Letters to Terry" that will run during weekend, as well as prior to the convention. What we're asking you to do, as fans of Terry and his work, is to write a letter/note/sketch (or anything else you want) to Terry, saying what he and his writing has meant to you.

All of these "letters" will be displayed on a board at the convention for other attendees, and guests, to read in their own time; and at the end of the weekend, they will be gathered into a scrapbook to be given to Terry's family, if they would like it, so they can see how much of an impact Terry has had on people's lives, or held onto by the Irish Convention for future additions. We will also create a digital copy for download after the con.

For those of you who can't be at the convention, we are opening up this event to you by asking that, if you want to, e-mail us a "letter" (along with a photo of yourself with Terry, if you have one and are happy for it to be used) before the 25th September to be displayed next to the Letters to Terry board. We suggest a letter of less than 1000 words, but it is entirely up to you. Emails to: letterstoterry@idwcon.org. If you prefer you can also post us your letter to IDWcon, 3 St John St, Dublin 8, D08 H9C9 to arrive before the 18th September. We also understand that everyone remembers in their own way, and want to make it clear this is a completely optional event, whether or not you are joining us in October.

We wholly intend this convention to be a celebration of Terry's work that has brought us all together. We aim to have people smiling, laughing and enjoying every second of the weekend, and we hope that by remembering Terry in this way, we leave plenty of time for the fun, social activities, without ever forgetting the man that made it all possible.

Thank you

Irish Discworld Convention 2015 Committee

This took us longer than intended to get around to, but we are sort of proud to present, warts and all, the further adventures of Ook and Squeak:
