DWCon 2016?

Postby DominoFalling » Sat Jan 10, 2015 12:36 am

Hi, as we are now in the year of the Spinning Mouse with only approx 20 months to go until the next DW Con, do any of you wonderful people know when registration will open please? I have been telling pals what a fun event it is and now they are wanting to know more about the 2016 Con and the website still has the 2014 details.

I know it takes a BS Johnson size bucket-load of time/ effort/ organisation/ blood-sweat-and whatnots to arrange a Con, and I am sure the Excellent ConCom are working their socks off prepping an amazing Con for us, but my deferred gratification muscle is worn out and I wanna know I am booked to attend the next DWcon now. And to have something fabulous to look forward to on these dark and stormy winter nights would give me a happy. :sunny:

Thanks muchly for any smidgen of tittle-tattle, rumour, speculation or downright lie you can tell me.

Hugs
Kare :bounce:

if the withdrawal symptoms get too much there are three other DWCons this year all in europe.
http://dutchdwcon.nl/ - Holland
http://www.scheibenwelt-convention.de/news.php? - Germany
http://idwcon.org/ Cork Ireland

Or if your feeling adventurous the NADWCon in the States.

Due to the infeasibly high cost of providing the necessary alcohol to fuel a concom, there will be no 2016 convention
Instead, we're all going to go to a local pub with good wifi, and connect by skype, and talk bollocks until 3 in the morning

Sounds like a very viable alternative, count me in! Especially as I only just realised the new place I am moving to has a pub next door - un-observant or what! I might get chucked out of CAMRA for this.

Boohoo! I would looove to go to all these Cons but I am still paying for the last one. Gone are the bygone days when I used to attend 3 Star Trek conventions a year. .. thinks, "Must write that best seller and get rich."

For a moment I got as scared as can I possible be! Phew, I really need glasses to see the small print faster. And I'm hoping for registration around April, if it is to follow the pattern of the last two conventions. Fingers crossed. But with the current committee you never know :)

Meantime I am rereading my DWCon blog posts (this would be shameless auto-advertising, if I'd only gain something from it :p) and wondering: how tired was I to make so many spelling mistakes, to eat so many whole words and to be so incoherent at one time or another? If I ever forget which post is from which day of the convention, I only have to count the mistakes, as the were more and more as Tuesday came closer :D.
I don't want a happy ending, I want more story.

As a thought for the next convention:

Maybe there should be a place on the DWCon website where could post when you could be available for Watch and/or Gophering duty. Nothing fancy, just to let you select a time interval, the type of the job you're "applying" for and eventually to let you say where (or how) you can be contacted.
And the posts only visible to the poor lost souls of the committee?

I have no idea if it would be a practical idea or not, but maybe it could help?

Oh, how I'd love for Australia to be closer... Or a plane ticket to AusDWCon to be 100 Euros :p.

In 2017 I *might* be able to afford to go there but I am, if that is possible, even FURTHER away than I Was, being in Finland.

no I can, sadly only afford one con every two years and I have plumbed (appropriate metaphor given the constant precipitation in the PRC*) for the Irish con this October.

So sadly no other cons, possibly no higswatch either.

*'tis the People's Republic of Cork. boy! sure 'tis massive!!!!!

AFAIK there's no NADWCON this year. There's a sort of "Special Interest Group" meeting inside World Con/Sasquan 2015
My next project is a book in which I explore the influence of the music of Beyonce on the writings of J R R Tolkien. It's called "It you write it, you have to put a ring in it"

Yes, but it should still be fun. A bunch of us here on the forum are staying in the same hotel even.

There is a DWCon within the Worldcon as they could not afford to put a full blown con on their own but you have to have a Wcon membership to attend it, :D I'm looking forward to it.
