Having been through Customs in Oz I can confirm that you must either bin or consume any plant material (dried fruit and nut trail mix in my case) you have with you. Not sure how they will cope with Trojan Ducks, although they likely have more skill in assessing the threat posed by one, compared to US TSA agents (who have twice managed to make me feel like a criminal rather than a citizen returning home).

Actually, that's not necessarily true. If the wood is painted or varnished it should be OK.

Now I want to see an episode of Border Patrol featuring the Luggage passing through Quarantine.

'Sorry, no wood unless it's varnished'
*Ominous creak*
'Oh bugger, Fred, it's looking at me funny'
'What do you mean? It's just a box with legs, how can it look at me funn- uh oh'
*Blur of movement as camera gets widly knocked. While the exact sequence is not clear, there are a great deal of pained cries, screams and grunts*
'Uuurrrhh... never mind, welcome to Australiaaaargh'
'But the wood-'
'Never mind the wood. It's got enough of my blood on it that we'll call it painted. Anyone seen my teeth?'
'Good point, is my ear still attached?'
*end scence*

I think you'll find sapient pearwood will just saunter through while the guards look the other way...
My next project is a book in which I explore the influence of the music of Beyonce on the writings of J R R Tolkien. It's called "It you write it, you have to put a ring in it"

What an utterly superb convention!
Without Doubt, the best Aus con yet - even better than last time in Sydney, which was a phenomenally high bar to aim for, let alone achieve, with what appeared to be such effortless grace - and one of the best I've ever been to (and there have been a few*)
If I mentioned everyone and everything that deserves it, I'd exceed the website disk space quota!
Suffice to say that even though I was arrested** at Changi airport on my (45 hour!) journey home*** it was still, and will remain, one of the happiest, most emotional and all-round best things I have ever done
Roll on Adelaide!

* Pat calculated I've been to 23(?) plus assorted Hogswatches, Spring Flings, 'Event' days and others of life's essential occurrences
** A drinkie will be sufficient to hear all the gory details
*** ditto

Thank You!

Have just checked out the photos that have been uploaded so far and it looks amazing! Although, having now seen the photos of all the wonderful shenanigans, I am now wondering . . . did anyone take any video footage? :D

Very poignant to see The Hat on its velvet cushion, though

There was no official videographers - so any video stuff would have been done by fans on their phones/cameras. One or two have been uploaded to the FB group.

It's a pity as there was some great bits in the opening & closing ceremony plus the XXXX factor that are worthy to be uploaded. Plus of course, Martin Pearson...

We'll hope to find someone to take video at the next con.

Oh, and by the way...
