Schiebenwelt convention 2015

Postby chrisboote » Mon Sep 14, 2015 09:23 am

Oodles of fun, lovely people, amazing surroundings - all in all, a fantastic weekend

We had tea tasting, puppet making, a four-couple handfasting ceremony (officiated by the priest of Offler*, and interfered with by the Voice of Offler) including a hastily improvised leaping over the fire, bratwurst in abundance, board games, dancing, swordfighting lessons (three different types) archery, some castle wall climbing (but no abseiling :( ) and lots, lots more
The weather was superb, except for the last evening, so there was also lots of sitting in the sunshine talking bollocks**
There were also two rum tasting sessions, which included some varieties for the brave of heart and iron of stomach, with a few only for use in camping stoves
We had a lovely recorded Q&A from Rob & Sandra, and a message from Briggsy (including a promise to come to the next one...)
A working print (number 24) of Troll Bridge was shown five times, to laughs and applause
The accommodation was clean and comfortable, the food varied from excellent to good, the bar was incredibly cheap, and the music was plentiful
What more could you ask for?

If anyone is havering about going to a non-English speaking convention, I urge you to reconsider and come next time (May 2017, same castle, same sorts of things happening) when the theme will be Lancre and the Witches

* My Firefox spellchecker already knew 'Offler' ...
** According to Rob, that's DW fans' specialist subject

Actually, even though, from my less-than-mobile perspective, Castle Ludwigstein's architecture meant it was even less suitable a venue than the Palace Hotel, that same architecture was so amazing as to have made Escher spin in his false-perspective grave

There were at least two floors where one end was above the door you entered through!

Plus a rectangular-appearing room with five windows on one side, and only four seemingly-identical windows, seemingly identically-spaced on the other

The only way to cope was to attend the rum tasting...

I note that Dr Harkin had a 'captive' audience . . .

. . . and can't help feeling that this photo needs a caption - perhaps:
"Nobody leaves until Lady Sybil Ramkin sings!"
"Anyone who didn't bring their wizardly robes has to do the con in the vest and underpants!"

What an amazing place and the spit of AM! And I see even Anthropomorphic Personifications attended . . .

But, I have to ask - were you doing the "and make it snappy!" joke?

And who was daft enough to interrupt Spike when she's concentratin' on her paintin'? Cor - she scares the life out of me her!

I see what you mean, I'd missed the Watch badge  Could have sworn her dressed as Spike in one of the other photos though
And what were you up to with the croc hand-puppets on the balcony - an alternate version of Romeo & Juliet, perhaps? Croceo & Snappiet?
