IDWCon 2017

Postby Shivers » Wed May 25, 2016 06:55 am

We are proud to announce that the new website for the Irish Discworld Convention 2017 is now live, and that memberships are now available to purchase!

Our website can be found at www.idwcon.org, where you'll find information on the convention, venue, pre-con T-shirts and much more!

We're also happy to announce that our theme this time round will be the Unseen University Open Doors Weekend - we’ll be visiting the U.U. to marvel at introductory lectures, research the groundbreaking Roundworld project, and find out more about the staff and Faculty. Whether you're a visiting scholar, a curious local or even a Tourist, the U.U.’s doors will be open to all for this extra-special event.

Hold on to your pointy hats - it's going to be Hexcellent!

Time to put quill to paper or fingers to keyboard for our competition: What I did/will do on my holidays. We're gathering retrospectives on former IDWCons, and predictions on future ones (perhaps by drinking some reannual wines), so if you haven't been before you can still have a go. Please send entries to info@idwcon.org :bounce:

The prize will be a shiny pre-con t-shirt (a second one or a refund if you've already purchased).

Please send by 25th July at the latest. Our favourite entries will be published on the IDWCon website, and the winner will also feature in a future issue of Discworld Monthly. Entries should be limited to 1000 words, and preferably submitted as a word document. (competition kindly featured in the 231st issue of DWM: http://discworldmonthly.co.uk/dwm0231.php#S_14)

And if you'd prefer not to leave it to chance, get your order in for your pre con t-shirt before the 31st of July http://2017.idwcon.org/index.php/membership/merchandise/preconshirt.html?___SID=U

IDWCon Updates
Well, an exciting and enjoyable DWCon - and a lot of interest generated in IDWCon at it - we were handing out bookmarks and pre-ordered pre-con t-shirts but the absolutely amazing thing was all the people who'd been to Ireland before convincing their other DW friends to join them for 2017. Thank you all :) Bernard has said he's not doing any more Cons but is taking a holiday to Ireland next year.

If anyone is planning to come but not yet bought membership, there have been a flurry of members in the last couple of weeks and we're now past the halfway point to our cap of 300.

We also have a fairly active faceborg group https://www.facebook.com/groups/518719671644599/, New fb page (as apparently it needs to be a Page rather than a Personal account) https://www.facebook.com/irishdiscworld and twitter https://twitter.com/IDWCon.

Our joint competition winners for 'What I did on my holidays' were featured in DWM http://discworldmonthly.co.uk/dwm0232.php

We released a very pretty advertising video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qyU0DCSVHPE - though never fear, we still plan to feature the highly unpolished Ook and Squeak again.

391 days to go.

Congratulations on doing so well so far out! :)

(We're not quite to our half-way full mark yet, with 10 and a half months to go).

Flights form HEL to ORK booked, now pondering spending the wed evening in helsinki proper so i only get up at "need coffee, stat" time rather than "punch the adrenaline shot through his breastbone NOW" time
[regarding Alan Rickman] He had Tim Curry's ability to save the day by putting literally all the scenery in his mouth and gnawing on it like a deranged woodchuck.
