[Stares at calendar]

Where can you buy one of those movie calendars where the pages fly off and suddenly it's the future?
My next project is a book in which I explore the influence of the music of Beyonce on the writings of J R R Tolkien. It's called "It you write it, you have to put a ring in it"

Not recommending it, mind you...

The purchase of memberships has been moved to the 10th... given how quickly it sold out last time and the way the rooms work, I'm getting the feeling that I'm not meant to go this time. :(

I want to be excited, really I do.

Although tickets sold out ridiculously fast last time there always seems to be a considerable amount of churn, so, if someone can't book for you, joining the reserve list fairly soon thereafter shouldn't harm your chances of attending too badly. The hotel thing might be harder but if you have special requirements I'm sure they'll do their best.

Netherlands in moving to even numbered years, starting with 2018.

The year I retire.

The year I retire and won't have to worry about counting leave days.

That's the year they choose to move...

I thought as a tenured professor you don't retire... ever, they just let you potter around in academic robes until you go potty and are shown as a curiosity/warning/example to freshers?

Leeds University was set up by canny Yorkshiremen and consequently doesn't have the concept of "tenure". I have, however, "passed the bar" which means I can keep turning up forever but they don't necessarily have to pay me if I do ;-)
