IDWCon 2019

Postby Shivers » Wed Apr 18, 2018 10:08 pm

The Irish Discworld Convention (IDWCon) will return to the Cork International Hotel for our sixth convention. We are holding it from the 29th of March to the 1st of April 2019. Our membership sales launch on the 19th of April 2018. Have a browse around our revamped website to find out more about the convention:
http://www.idwcon.org

This IDWCon we’ll be visiting the Discworld region of Überwald, focusing on the delightful village of Schnapp, whose inhabitants are keen to tempt tourists to their Sektoberfest. Schnapp’s tourist board will be sending out promotional material and further information as we near the convention, so make sure you sign up to our newsletters to keep up to date.

Using your old computer to shop for a new computer online is rather cruel
It's like asking your dying wife if she has any cute girlfriends

The theme is Überwald so I replied in Überwaldian :P

Which makes me wonder, is there a cognate for Ireland on the Disc?

Oops - my bad! serves me right for showing off and not reading the original post first!
Very good question on the Ireland/Disc equivalent - I'm wracking my brains (such as they are) and I can't think of one. Will have to consult The Compleat Discworld Atlas. Surely STP wouldn't have left out the Emerald Isle, would he? My family alone could have given him enough material for a couple of books. On the other hand, the Feegles were probably so much fun to write he might not have got round to working out what to do about the Irish . . . which is, you have to admit, a subject that's baffled the English for hundreds of years!

So very true about our being baffling. But yes the Welsh get Llamedos and the Pict-sies have their Scottish aspects.
Perhaps Ireland was too fantastical in its own right to fit in Discworld :bounce:
