Hooray, back at the Metropole
I know some hated it, but everything on one level, with big enough function rooms, AND proper aircon?

As long as the staff behave (as promised) it should be grand :)

Ahhhh I am SO excited! Hope to be quick on the draw for memberships this time otherwise it will be the third time in a row I've missed out :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: With luck it will be my first DW con, and I'm dragging the beau along too to initiate him into all of this wonderful madness! Yaaay!!
They'd come here to spoon and, on one memorable occasion, fork.

In fairness a lot of my dislike cetnered around alcoho, that's no longer a case.
There was a secondry degree of a feelign we were unwanted there and just an annoying little convention, but I understand there's been a change in managment.
I'll go with an open mind, assuming i manage to grab tickets that is
[regarding Alan Rickman] He had Tim Curry's ability to save the day by putting literally all the scenery in his mouth and gnawing on it like a deranged woodchuck.

I've liked all the places the con has been. The Birmingham place had a nice little forest to walk in and was easy to get to and from. Also the lounge area was pretty useful for gathering. I guess maybe I didn't notice any attitudes in the staff...? Or, alternatively, see ribbon motto. :D

Oook!

This Convention is the highlight of my life, this special time every two years when I can celebrate wonder and weird with folks who actually understand my references.

[Reveal] Spoiler: This bit is me whining:
I hate being a whiner, I really do. But it bugs me that they haven't even announced the DATES for the ticket sales.

I wrote a post on Faceblock a few weeks ago about this, and folks took it as an attack on the Committee - so I'm winjing here instead, because
I know that the Committee is made of volunteers who aren't getting any compensation for their wonderful work and I don't want to offend. I'm just impatient to know that I've secured my place, and I don't think I'm alone in this.

Nope, not alone.... I just think it doesn't really help move things along to complain to them. I'm pretty sure they know we all want it very badly. But yeah I know how you feel.

To calm myself I decided I would plan to go to England regardless, and if I don't get a ticket maybe one will free up, and if that doesn't happen I'll just scamper about the countryside and maybe visit some people I want to see before or after - which as worst-case scenario is not too terrible a fate because I never seem to have enough time to go all the places I want to.

This decision at least stilled the panic in me, and I can be patient.

Saw the tweet announcing when memberships would go on sale and was very excited to see that the convention would be back at my beloved Hilton metropole

Have signed up. Don't know if I'll definitely go but I am thinking about it and I'm glad about that :)

I'm sad to say that my current finances mean that I am unable to make this one. :(
