Hope you can make it across again for a Wincanton weekend. Two a year.

Hi everyone,

I was at the con last weekend (and the one before, but I was too shy and awkward to talk to anyone then) and I have conveniently used the same name as my badge to avoid confusion :D

My dad introduced me to the books when I was ten or eleven and running out of things to read...since then I am pretty much always reading one of the books, I just go round the series and find the one that I read the longest time ago. My favourite book is Lords and Ladies...I love the witches!

I'm 27 and I live in Italy, where I mostly drink lots of coffee, conceptualise, and try not to get a tan. I like to wear a penguin on my shoulder. I am wise.

Thanks Chris! :D

I remember reading that if you turn up on your own you should just walk up to a group of people and say 'hi, I don't know anyone.' And I decided to test it- it worked! Loads of new friends.

Hello to all!

As they say: Third time is a charm. After my third UK Discworld Convention last weekend (and being told to join this forum again and again), I'm finally here!
During DWCon I have been seen running around in a pirate-y costume. Some people here might know me from on of the German Discworld Conventions or from the German Pratchett Fan Club.
In case anyone remembers (hopefully nobody does): I am the infamous "Camera One" who almost managed to ruin the maskerade of the UK Discworld Convention in 2010. At least it felt that way.

Yay, welcome to the forum! (Regarding the 2010, I really don't remember what you mean).

Hi hi!
What a surprise, I am new to the forum! :D
But I am not so new to the books of Terry Pratchett and his wonderful discworld.
I read m first book over 15 years ago. It was the german version of small gods. I just read this one in german an switched then to the english books. I read so much that I failed parts of my intermediate diploma.
This year my husband and will go to Wincanton for Hogswatch.
But this is a story for another thread.

Hello!

I'm 21, I've recently left Uni where I studied Comparative Literature and as you can tell by my ingenious username, my name is Ben. I'm a wine salesman too so maybe I'll bring a couple of bottles if I get along to some of the events!
I've been reading the Discworld series pretty much as long as I've been reading, I absolutely love them, of course, or I wouldn't be here! Recently I've had an urge to get involved in a way outside my own bookshelf so I would really appreciate any info or suggestions on some ways I can do this! (Events, threads, anything really!)

My favourite characters are probably Leonard of Quirm, Nanny Ogg, Vetinari and Cohen.
I'm not sure I can choose one book as my favourite...several of the Watch novels, maybe Witches Abroad too.

I'd love to meet some other people who love Discworld books as much as I do and it looks like I'm in the right place!

Cheers,
Ben G

Hello.
I have lived in the U.S. for the past 14 years, though I was born in Hexham. I'm quite young, I suppose, and I read my first Terry Pratchett book at age 9 (5 years ago). It was the Amazing Maurice and his Educated Rodents.
In the grand the scheme of things, I am very much a newcomer. My time devoted to Pratchett's work pales in comparison to that of many.
I have never been to any sort of convention on any such subject--I have yet to convince someone to drive me three hours north for one.
I enjoy writing, tap dancing, playing the flute, acting, singing, and of course reading!
My favorite Pratchett characters are all of the Feegles (it's impossible to pick just one), Tiffany, and Horace.
Also, I have never been part of a forum before, so please let me know if I do something wrong :?

Hi everyone

I'm Maxine. I live in West Yorkshire, where I run my own business working as a blacksmith, making furniture and funky garden stuff. I've been reading Discworld book for many, many years now but have never been to any of the conventions. The Hogfather is probably my favourite book, though its really hard to choose!

I'm heading to wincanton for Hogswatch this year ( and should be in the makers room if anyone wants to say hi!) so looking forward to meeting everyone...

Also bringing the boyfriend with me who ISN'T a Discworld fan - so please feel free in attempting to convert him :)

Hello!
I'm Jen, i'm 19 (and 3/4). I live with my parents just outside of Bristol and commute into Cardiff University (to study English language). I like to read, drink tea, and dabble in knitting. I find a strange satisfaction in crossing things off to-do lists. I also enjoy making lists.
I tend to suck at socialising with people in real life, because let's face it, university students mainly want to drink and get naked, and since I don't really enjoy drinking and getting naked is kinda overated, I didn't really make many friends last year, hence living at home.
Sob story aside, I loveeeee Pratchett although I don't really have enough time to read things I enjoy with all the work I've got to do!
I love christmas, and goats, and marshmallows.
I would have to say my favourite Pratchett book is EITHER going postal or the hogfather, although I haven't read enough to really judge it. I also love The Hobbit, Chocolat, and Watership Down.
My ultimate favourite day would include a marathon of the extended editions of Lord of the Rings shortly followed by March of the Penguins, A LOT of chocolate and some pretty epic cuddling.
If anyone wants to chat, feel free to message me! Unfortunately there is no penguin smilie, so you're going to have to make do with a cat :meow:

Hi everybody,
As you may be able to tell my name is Neil and I'm not 82 years old but 30, hence the 82.
I have been an avid reader of fantasy novels since I was a teenager, but was a slow starter with the discworld novels. It took the City Watch and Death novels to get me hooked and I can safely say I'm glad to be hooked.

My favourite books have to be night watch or thief of time, but just got round to the witches books and I'm falling for Granny (why I took so long to read these I'll never know).
My favourite character has to Lu-Tze, or Vimes or Granny Weatherwax, it's a hard one to call.

I've spent my post uni years working as an engineering analyst (which is as boring as it sounds, trust me), and have only managed to come across one discworld fan through work, so i've never really felt like I fitted in as an engineer. So I decided to take a break from work to reassess everything from life, the universe and concrete donkeys.
I purchased a Thud set over a year ago and have been looking for someone to play, however my family and friends are not fans of the discworld novels and are just not interested in playing. So if anyone knows where I can play, by all means, please drop me a message.

I'm looking to meet and get to know some like minded folk, and hopefully find myself, so what better place to start then a forum for fans of discworld.

Sorry I ramble when I'm nervous
