Oh my gosh, you are so right! I think I bought more on eBay this week than I have in my entire life.

My biggest problem so far is trying to figure out the best way to organize/track the stamps I have. I'm a software engineer so I think this weekend I'm going to make an app using the stamp catalogue website instead of using a spreadsheet. We'll see how it goes!

Hi Sarah :thumbl:

Steve James' (Steeljam on this forum) DW Stamp Catalogue website is invaluable! I started collecting about 5 years ago and I would have been lost without it! It's a complete list of all Discword stamps, sports, variations, sheets, covers, etc. etc. etc. and has sheets that you can print off to help keep track of your stamps.

Don't forget to check out the Emberellas too!

These wonderful bits of sticky paper are completely addictive!

I finally started reading the kindle copy of The Colour of Magic that I’d snagged for free a while back because my favorite author, Neil Gaiman, has said an awful lot of nice things about Sir Terry and his books. I think I held out so long because I had a vague idea I’d read a Discworld novel before and didn’t like it that much. 50 or so pages into Colour, that doesn’t seem likely to me anymore.

BUT

On the Discworld Emporium Reading Order page, it mentions that “the tone of Discworld and its inhabitants changes quickly,” although it doesn’t say how. I already like the tone a lot! Should I be worried I won’t like the mysterious new one as much?

No need to be worried at all - it gets better and better! :D
In the first couple of books, the humour is a bit more 'slapstick' but as the books go on, the observational satire and character development becomes both more profound and even funnier and you'll really grow to love the characters and how richly imagined the Discworld becomes.

Wait until you meet Granny Weatherwax, Nanny Ogg and Magrat (note spelling) Garlick in Wyrd Sisters - you'll love it! :D

Try Mort or Wyrd Sisters next; they're books 4 and 6 and they are definitely different in tone and style to the first 2 with Equal Rites (the 3rd book) being the start of being different and Sourcery (the 5th) being a continuation of Rincewind's story.

Hello!

I’ve met a few people in real life who I think are members here so I thought I might as well give the virtual world a go.

I’m Amie, in Leeds, been reading Discworld for lots of years. Not far off many decades.

Hello everyone,

I've recently discovered the Discworld series almost by accident, as I got copies of the first 5 books in a lot with other things I was looking for at a yard sale. And like every book I get "by accident", I made sure to give it a try, regardless of the genre, before putting it for sale or trade! And I was lucky to have such a tradition, as I had a blast and went through these 5 novels like my cat through a can of pâté.
And that's how I ended up here! I (please don't throw rocks at me) never heard of Terry Pratchett before, and I'm quite glad I did discover his works, even if it took some time in my life. Which means that I have to catch up with the rest of the community!

See you on the forums and have a nice day.

Welcome welcome Ural 4320! You have the enviable pleasure, that few of the rest of us have anymore, of getting to read a Terry book FOR THE VERY FIRST TIME. :D :D And then you will get to read them over and over again, discovering new nuggets of hilarity, cultural references, and insights into the human condition. We're glad you're here. :sunny:

Thanks for your message! I did enjoy that chance to the fullest, as I was completely taken by surprise and was absolutely blown away over the course of the last week by these books I received randomly!
