Essex and London Lodge meeting

Postby steeljam » Tue Sep 30, 2014 04:05 pm

Since time immemorial the Essex and London meetings have been held in and around Essex.
I am wondering if a London (City) would be a better option.

Before I book somewhere I thought I would survey the members.
Which part of London would suit you for a Saturday or Sunday meetup?
City, Southwark, Theatreland (Covent Garden/ Leicester Square) or Westminster/Waterloo

City or Southwark would be most convenient for us but could get anywhere in London really. Sunday's are better but can do Saturday's as well if it's in the afternoon/ evening
Yes it will be in this brown envelope, I know it will.... Oh maybe not

Theatreland (Covent Garden/ Leicester Square) or Westminster/Waterloo are packed at the weekend, Southwark is not much better but at least the City may have some room.
Personally as it is impossible to park in any of those then I like none. What is wrong with a location that has parking?
Although I can drive in the congestion zone, I'm down on Frank the Elders list of drivers, once there there is is nowhere to park.
Currently the state of my knee would mean I could not bring any stamp stuff and be in a lot of pain due to walking.
PS the borough of Southwark is rather large so I assumed you mean the area known as. :)

Hi, it's Helen here.

I haven't been to a meeting for years because it wasn't really convenient once we moved to Croydon (also because it's often only advertised in the stamp section or Events where it's easy to miss the notice).

Now that we're in Woodford, the old venue, The Red House, is very easy for us to get to.

You could probably find somewhere quiet in the City, which is spookily quiet at weekends.

I apologise for not sorting things out.
I think with Hogswatch and then Christmas it would be better to have a meeting mid-January at the Red House.

Once the date is decided, I can send a notice via the Broken Drummers mailing list. There are a whole load of people who come to Drummers who are not otherwise involved in Discworld fandom and would not hear about the meeting otherwise.

Sunday January 11th at the Red house would work for me, but I'm off to see my wife in Thailand for three weeks after that weekend. If I have to miss it, Have fun!
I can only conclude that I'm paying off Karma at a vastly accelerated rate.

As there is no spring fling in 2015 a London meet takes on more significance.

I was thinking one of the following Sundays:

25th January,
1st February, or
8th February

Usual location at 12 noon onwards: The Red House at Redbridge

Please post the dates you can attend.
