Crazy eBay ... Again!

Postby Skaven » Sun Feb 13, 2011 06:03 am

What is it thats making the bidding go mad on this auction?
I can see the Da Vinci Cod and the Twinning stamps but can't work out what the Holy Grail is in this batch.

I'm not bidding on these myself they're already way out my price range.

Well, as you say the Da Vinci Cod is quite rare now, as is the Baron Samedi... there's also the Hinkley point convention stamp, three forum year stamps, The Lilac Twinning stamp, (One of only 60), and the Jamboree Balloon race stamp, (One of only 28). The Stanley Gibbons stamp is uncommon, (One of 300), and the Rockall stamp is also uncommon these days. All in all it's a nice little collection of rarities. Of the two Nullas Anxietas Stamps one has a dot on the horizon that might just be a kangaroo, if so that's a fairly rare sport as well. I'll be interested to see if it's topped out at £73.50 or if it go's on to break the £100 mark. My bet's that it will.
I can only conclude that I'm paying off Karma at a vastly accelerated rate.

I'm shocked at the winning bid

I thought £73 was alot I never expected them to fetch to double that.

I think that based on the rarity of the Balloon Race stamp and the Twinning stamp alone that that was a very fair price, all of the other stamps were a bonus. I was suprised that there wasn't a proper list of the stamps.

I had marked that batch as a must have, but when it reached what I would pay with still three days left it was a near certaintly there would be a bidding war.
I hope that the ones I needed from that batch appear as singles as bidding will be less competitive. Those bidding or intending to bid may have only been interested in half the collection, though the remainder would have been excellent material for trades

I was watching that auction - didn't bid as I knew it would go way out of my price range.
But wanted the
Twinning stamp - must look these up, only really know the one on the FDC...
Ballon Stamp
Maybe the Hinkley - need one, think it might be the mask one though...
Wish they were listed individually :( (mind you still think I still wouldn't have one any of the auctions)
Nullus + Cod are nice stamps in the mix also.

Well congrats to the winner.... nice collection to win :)

Cheers
Mark

Mark by the mask one did you mean the Baron Samedi corner cus I'm sure I have a spare one somewhere (not a corner though) I'll have a look when I get the chance.

Hi Miss Tick -
Just a quick check - No it is the Hinkley Isle stamp I need (I have the '06' Hinkley mask stamp) -
Not the Samedi stamp... but thanks all the same.
Sorry to confuse...
Cheers

So I was right... it did go for substantially over £100.
I wanted the Da Vinci Cod, the Lilac Twinning stamp, the Hinkley point convention stamp and the Nullas Anxietas stamps. Though I already have the Balloon race stamp a spare would indeed have made a good trade. The rest would all have been duplicates. I went up to £127.99, and wound up without any time to make another bid... So it goes. However I picked up a couple of other lots of mixed stickers that I wanted including the "Music with rocks in" sticker, which must be rare because I've not seen it elsewhere, and later the "Dreadnaught" fools guild nose in it's tin - quite possibly a uniqueish item. As I collect discworld "Tins, Boxes, and Containers" it'll be the star of the set... (Does anyone have a "Soil of the Homeland" box that they might feel like parting with?)
I can only conclude that I'm paying off Karma at a vastly accelerated rate.

To much for me at the moment- but not really surprising. Very few of them have been sold on e-bay. I've been looking since I missed out on the original release.
