I also went to see War of the Worlds this evening - thought the film was excellent. Young girl in it was fantastic and outshone Tom Cruise completely. Sound was a bit dodgy, but I think that was probably just a dodgy sound system at the cinema I saw it at.

Was very disappointed by the aliens in it though - they reminded me far too much of the aliens in Independence Day.

You'll just have to wait for it on DVD and then resurrect this thread once you've seen it!

SFX were OK. Aliens were as they should be. The script was utter poo imho and the sequence of events totally incredible. One suspenseful scene in the cellar and how on earth did the brother get to Boston?

and why did the aliens bury things here a million years ago to kill men that did not exist?

Truck through story or what?

We're not even going to bother to see it in the theater. We'll wait to rent it. I just know I will be disappointed.

I agree the special effects were a disappointment compared to what they CAN do these days. The story was ok I will have to read the book(when I have time :( )

The girl was good but the character was annoying. Your fleeing the city, everyone is obviously terrifide out of their wits and you complain because you can't sleep in you orthopeidic bed!!!   Even a spoilt little brat like her would have picked up on the seriousness of the situation!

I thought the film was excellent and thought it was a lot better than the trailer. The children in it both got annoying though.

I've been to see it twice with 2 different groups of friend, was very disappointed.

I have to agree with Renta the script is pants with some pretty unforgivable plot holes when you consider who was directing and co producing it.

I thought that Tom Cruise did an ok job but Dakota Fanning acted everyone off the screen. Ive seen her in quite a few things and she doesnt just play the annoying brat parts. If she came across that way in this film then thats what the part called for.

All in all not the worst film i have ever seen but i expected so much more.
TO LET.

I didn't enjoy it at all.

Did that girl have to scream so much?
I have been told it sticks to the original book, so now i'm hunting that down.

I'm not a Tom Cruise fan, but I thought even couldn't mess up a roll like that. I was wrong. They should have let Hugh Jackman play the role.
