Just seen it - I thought it was OK. The little girl acted TC off screen.

I must say I liked the scene where Tom Cruise threw himself down on the bed and his ickle feet didn't get anywhere near the end

Starring In Order of Appearance
A paramecium
Another paramecium
Yet another paramecium

Starring In Order Of Height
A paramecium
Tom Cruise
Another paramecium...

Yes, it's heightist humour, and should be beneath me. But then, what isn't

Incidentally, why did the aliens getting sick stop their shields working? My son reckons the shields were psionically generated by the aliens. I reckon the pilot was running a fever and felt hot, so he opened the window to get a bit of a draft. Or possibly someone got confused with the plot of Independence Day...

I'm glad I saw it on the big screen though, and the effects (not hust the big stuff of things blowing up, but also the wrecked basements, the damage to clothes & minor props etc) were very, er, effective.

I can confirm I have now seen this film
I like it
I like the action and yes the little girl was a very good actor but then I aint a fan of tom cruise I'm more a johnny depp person

the film was very action packed with some impressive special effects
The ending however was dissappointing but I have been told this is how the book ends so suppose best shut up and stop complaining
all in all I give it a 7 out of 10

Not a huge cast list (but Jessica Alba for the boys), true comic book fun great character interaction and some good special effects.

A film for the Popcorn and unwind brigade, no serious thinking required just good honest fun. I much preferred this to War of the Worlds.

Ioan Gruffudd .... Reed Richards
Jessica Alba .... Sue Storm
Chris Evans .... Johnny Storm
Michael Chiklis .... Ben Grimm
Julian McMahon .... Victor Von Doom

are the main characters (no not Ginger Winger Chris Evans, a half decent actor)

Nothing like Sin City.

It's lots of fun rather than dark and moody. More like the Spiderman films but with better characters.

I'll hide the text, because it contains potential spoilers:

The ending is terribly naive nowadays. In the novel, however, it had a lot of merit, because micro-organisms were a very recent discovery.

I kept hoping that the girl would die a horrible death, to spare me her unbearable screams. I don't know what having an annoying character screaming all the time adds to a movie. I was also disappointed when the boy showed up at the end, though it was really predictable. (OK, I don't like children in movies).

The story is silly. Here's my summary:

  • Alien 1 : That planet sure looks nice. I'll tell you what. We'll bury some killing/harvesting machines and in a million years or so we come back and kill whatever has evolved.

Alien 2 : Kewl. But what if we wait, say, two million years so we have time to invent some protective suits.

Alien 1 : I hope you don't believe in that 'bacteria' silliness. We'll go in the nude, like decent Martians.
They shouldn't show the aliens. 1) Because it would be more interesting and 2) because they are very crummy. A mix between Independence DAy aliens and E.T.

I could go on and on, but you can guess I didn't like the movie. Actually, the only thing I liked was Tim Robbins, because his character was funny. 'Not my blood!'.

As for Tom Cruise, he's nuts. Not only that, he follows a very dangerous and destructive cult, which has led him to some ridicolous performances.

If you don't want to read those links, I can offer a brief summary. Scientology claims that a long time ago, someone called Xenu trapped millions of aliens on our planet and nuked them with atomic bombs. Their spirits now haunt us, causing us pain, illness, etc. and preventing us from gaining our normal god-like powers. Scientology can help banish those ghosts and make us superpowerful (its founder didn't die, he willingly abandonded his body in order to retire to another planet, where he can think and no be disturbed). It has a militant branch (Sea Org). If you want to join, you have to sign a contract for 1 000 000 000 years.

Scientologists claim psychiatry is wrong and evil, which led to Tom Cruise critisising Brooke Shields for seeking help with her post partum depression. They claim to have the only drug rehabilitiation programme that works (high success ratios, because they expel all the difficult cases). I'm sorry for the digression, but these things really annoy me.
