Copper Penny Patrician

Postby Qvize » Tue Jul 26, 2005 04:23 pm

As I've now got 6 weeks off and little better to do, I went back in to school today and had a play around at manufacturing a copper version of the penny patrician using acid etching. The result isn't astounding but not bad for a first attempt (I'll be aiming for more detail on my next attempt)

Image

The copper colour doesn't show up too well on a scan. Real size = 38mm x 45mm

Hmm..... gold penny patrician - don't think I'd aim to acid etch that one -would be more likely to try to engrave it using a CNC engraving tool and then carefully rub gold foil on to the engraving.

Have just realised that posting "Copper Penny Patrician" has probably just caused a series of heart attacks with people thinking something new is coming out

Be carefull - Bernard's common response to this sort of thing is a threat to break your fingers (or on offer of a job)

Going back to school to work is great at this time of year - no kids to get in the way or cause senseless noise, access to a full computer suite, Computer Aided Manufacturing facilities, Acid baths, welding and forge facilities etc...

Sadly it all goes back to normal and kids come back in September so I make the most of it whilst I can!

I'll just stick it in me pocket and take it along to CCDE on Friday along with a couple of other things I've been playing around making. Might try my second version of it tomorrow with a stronger acid etchant and a better quality mask to make it with and see how that goes instead.
