The name "Esme" is ranked number 35 in the top 100 baby girls names with 1, 416 new Esmes registered last year :D that's a 90% increase on 10 years ago.

How many of those new parents are Discworld fans I wonder . . .

I have become a volunteer at the Crossness Pumping Station.
Past couple of days have been fun. Yesterday setting up for an event and today helping out at the Second Crossness Steampunk Convivial.
Lots of things happening; A couple of Tesla Coils flashing away; tea dueling, umbrella fencing and lots of promenading.
I think this thing may be catching...

I AM A BLACK BELT

Edit: Yeah I know the phrasing opens it for jokes, but that's how we say it - the black belts will be there, bow to the black belts, when you become a black belt you... don't ever have to take a test again but can mentor the kids :D

Really? Knowing the mastery and control required to achieve a black belt I now feel safer in being cheekier than ever :D :D :D

Oh, and CONGRATULATIONS!

Well deserved

LOL you guys! <3

Chris is right, though, as basic to martial arts as learning the moves is knowing you have to use it responsibly. There is always some jerk, yeah, but there's no getting around human nature.

At work when I've told them I was training for a black belt, they'd say, "Ooo! I shouldn't mess with you!" and I'd say they're right, they shouldn't, but not because of the black belt. Like other forms of defensive coloration, it's a signal that I am a bad choice for prey.

Although I DO know 30 ways to tie people up in knots.

Have bought a Dimension Jump membership and booked hotel. AWOOGA! :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

AND - I have found a reasonably priced UK TV streaming service so I can watch Red Dwarf in Real Time :D (although it still hasn't solved the satellite limits on downloads, grrrr)

Mr Mark Hamill, a.k.a Luke Skywalker, liked one of my Tweets :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

If I'd known there was an outside chance in hell of that happening, I would have put a bit more effort into Tweeting something interesting!

What was it you said - that he liked?

The latest Star Wars-The Last Jedi trailer was released this morning, and it opens with a shot of Luke Skywalker walking into the cockpit of the Millennium Falcon, so I simply retweeted the link and said:
Seeing Luke back in the cockpit of the Falcon again has made my morning ! @HamillHimself

https://twitter.com/Grace_Speaker/status/926013654956412928

If I had thought for a single second that Mark Hamill would see it & like it, I would have put a lot more effort in to Tweeting something funnier and/or more profound! On second thought - sod it, who cares!? I got a like from Luke Skywalker!! :D :D :D ** engages smug mode ** :D :D :D

Cool - he probably appreciates the basic honesty of an instant response.

I assume you have your tickets? We've got the 00.01 showing and are now discussing whether to see the Force Awakens the evening before....

Oh yes :D had my ticket booked for a fortnight now :D I saw TFA at the 00.01 showing at my little local cinema last year, but this time I've gone for one of Vue's XtremeScreen thingies at 9am - when it comes to my Sci Fi, I like it BIG and I like it LOUD :D

Especially as Mark Hamill is front and centre again in this film . . . Luke Skywalker was my first love (circa age 6!), so Rian Johnson better not have buggered up his character arc in this film or there'll be trouble

I am planning to watch SW, ESB, ROTJ and the TFA in the lead up . . . possibly more than once . . . :D

. . . I wonder if there's a clinical DSM definition for obsessive Star Wars fixation? Jediphilia, perhaps? Skywalkeritis?
