Great news and I wish him well. :D

Thanks guys! We are SO relieved! The icing on the cake is that it's a position he's excited about. It's also closer to home.

After some heavy discussion we finally decided we will not host trick or treating this Halloween (although we will eagerly resume next year). However, it's a big fun holiday for me, so we are making alternative plans so we can still have a good time.

I ordered a fire pit, something I've wanted for a long time. We'll set it up in the backyard along with our jack o'lanterns and the traditional meat & cheese & accouterments plate, and my pot of mulled wine and the pumpkin beer cooler, and we'll wear costumes and toast marshmallows and make caramel apples and play our traditional set of Halloween music. I'd really like it if we can get someone on the computer, to make it a real party, but I don't know if that will happen.

So yeah it's nice to have something to look forward to, even if it isn't our usual bit. The only thing actually missing would be the trick or treaters.

See The Birdie Thread.

Also, have been given permission to work aboard our oyster survey boat for 2 whole weeks starting October 5th! :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: AND, the Federal agency that operates my laboratory is moving to covid Phase 1, meaning that 8 people can occupy the building at one time. This means that the fall oyster survey can go forward, pretty much as normal. We are severely short-staffed, but at least we won't have to move operations to a hugely inconvenient location. I can go into my office and connect to work internet, and not have to burn as much of my own bandwidth. I didn't realize how much of a stress relief this would be until I got the emails about it this morning. :D :D :D I just keep smiling idiotically!
