Trying a new recipe tonight. Lamb shanks braised in a rosemary, cinnamon, garlic, tomato, white wine sauce. Still has 30 minutes to go in the oven, it smells wonderful, and I'm drooling.

For me it's a hot day special- baby leaf salad from the supermarket (with just me it works out for less waste than buying the veggies separately and using them before they go bad or me hating salad for life) with a small can of flavoured tuna (eg sundried tomato and basil). Since I'm not a fan of 99% of salad dressings, this gives it a bit of flavour without contaminating it with blechy vinegar tastes or oil. Bonus- it won't heat the house up at all.

Not a great fan of most dressings. However, I do like the Pizza Express one.
Have you tried a mixture of chilli oil, garlic, and Greek yoghurt or Crème fraîche?

No, but the only dressing I haven't hated is 1/2 cup of yoghurt with a squeeze of lemon juice, half a teaspoon of sugar and a pinch of salt. Works great with a chicken salad that is another favourite hot weather go to (take 1/2 BBQ chicken, 3-4 stalks of celery chopped, one tin of drained mandarins, 1/2 cup toasted flaked almonds, 1-2 tbsp chopped parsley, pepper and the above dressing). So I'll have to try that one, one day.

I grew up with salad cream.....Now I don't like anything else - though I have tried the low fat version and find that even better! (Never did get used to mayonnaise)

Today - Shepard's pie (made with lamb mince) - onion, carrot, mushrooms, peas, mince, stock pot and arrowroot topped in mash. hmmmmmmmm - lovely smells but hot hot hot!

To quote my wife when I last cooked a meat pie coated in potato.
- Shepherd's pie is with lamb
- Cottage pie is with beef
I don't forget that in a hurry.

Tonight will be cauliflower cheese from the freezer! Last night was pork in a homemade creamy mushroom sauce with asparagus, sugar snaps and tenderstems (just what are they, Mr Sainsbury? Tenderstem WHAT?)

Derek recently made a batch of his 5-alarm chili. Although, I think this batch was at least 7-alarm. Still yummy though! It always has a lot of flavor - once the burning sensation passes.

I made another batch of fried chicken 2 nights ago, and am so happy I have comfort food in he house, 'cause I'm getting a cold. :( :x Cheesy grits for breakfast, chicken for lunch, probably soup for dinner. And tea. LOTS of tea.

Lamb shanks braised in cinnamon rosemary garlic tomato sauce for dinner tonight, with rice, and spouts boiled in bacon grease (everything is improved by bacon!).

Last night was venison chili, cornbread, and curried squash soup.
