One of the lovely things about northern puffer is that, apart from being excessively cute, they aren't toxic. When I was a child they were very common and I remember catching big ones by the dozen. They disappeared from the upper part of the Chesapeake during the 1980s and it's only been in the last 5 years or so that I have seen them again.

A nice bland tomato sauce with beef meatballs and spaghetti.

This was the first meal I enjoyed since my surgery - still not managing to eat much and the anaesthetic taste perversion is fading off.

Tomorrow is the rest of the meatballs and then I will be very bold, and try a chicken balti.

Glad your pleasure in food is returning Sandra. I' watched a similar process with Mate, and it's such a relief when he starts asking for favorite foods after being ill.

I am a tad annoyed that my family apparently prefers a frozen premade lasagna to a thoughtfully prepared full-course meal, complete with flavors that blend and complement.

I made a beef stir fry last night that turned out kind of blah. It's one of those meals that turns out differently each time, even though I make it the exact same way. :roll:

Well I am currently in this Berlin property and I will be cooking some nice local pork sausages for dinner with some mashed potatoes. Probably will put on the table a bottle of a nice German beer. Love such combination.

I've had to get a little bit creative since sometimes the stores don't have what I usually buy. But spaghetti with ground turkey instead of beef went over pretty well, with the family divided on which it likes better. And last night I sauteed some chicken breasts and made up for the lack of dark meat by making a pan gravy, which was likewise well received by the dark meat eaters.

And, while my daughter wants to bake to relieve her boredom, I want to go easy on flour, eggs, and milk until the supply steadies, so I found a Michelin-star baked apple recipe we will try this weekend.

Although I do see signs of supply steadying - at 7am (senior shopping hour is from 6-7) my local store had some TP and paper towels, some sugar, plenty of meat, and the canned goods aisles are refilling bit by bit. It cheered me up. The only thing that was lacking that I might have wanted was butter, and there was some of the expensive stuff left if I really needed it. But I have enough for now so I'll wait.

If things had worked out my wife and I would have been in Berlin next week. Flybe's collapse meant my holiday was cancelled.

We had a dinner oops - the bacon chops (2 pieces) turned out to be one chop.

Drastic rethink needed, tomorrows chicken breasts moved forward:

Breaded chicken slices, potato gratin, and mixed steamed veg

(Would have worked better with the bacon chops) even had a few slices left over

A couple of years ago I joined Slimming World. I lost 6 stone in 40 weeks.
Most of the recipes in the SW books were for four people, so I cooked the meal. Two for us and two for the freezer.
We are now enjoying the fruits of my labour. We have cut down on our shopping.
I also discovered that the whole of a cauliflower is edible; outside leaves and stem are great when steam.
Hot chick peas and lentils mixed in a salad makes a great meal; add tuna or salmon steaks for a filling meal.

I really want to have, what is called in Spain, Russian salad tonight. It's only potatoes, carrots and peas bound in mayonaise with boiled eggs and tuna. I never thought I'd ever had to worry about whether or not these will be available when I risk popping to the shops later.

Like Steve, Mate and I have a freezer full of either prepared meals, or proteinaceous materials. It really helps to take away the stress of the current embuggerance. Roast chicken tonight!

Several weeks ago I discovered a falafel mix with a chili recipe on the side. It's pretty good! Found all the ingredients on the last shopping trip, so we'll probably be having that tonight.

So, mined the interwebz for something different for roast chicken. Something spicy-ish. Moroccan recipe looked intriguing. Paprika, cumin, red pepper flakes, cinnamon, lemon zest stuffed under skin, then roasted with sweet potatoes, cauliflower, and red onions. No zest, but excellent lemon pepper on hand for substitute. Also bottled lemon juice for the cavity. No veg, but our staples of russet potatoes, yellow onions, and carrots to substitute.

It was yum, and I have chicken breast for Caesar salads. :thumbr:

Tomorrow in the kayak I will have tarragon-infused surimi salad on pumpernickel, carrots with blue cheese dressing, tortilla chips, and an apple. :sunny:
