Charities

Postby Pat » Fri Aug 18, 2017 12:30 pm

I'm going to be speaking about Discworld fandom in November and trying to make a list of chariries which we've supported down the years but my mind is drawing a blank. Could those of you with better remembering equipment (or diaries) add to the list below?

UK CONVENTION CHARITIES
Orangutan Foundation
Diabetes UK
Alzheimers Research UK
Music Therapy Works

WINCANTON CHARITIES
Orangutan Foundation
RICE
The Balsalm Centre
<A local GP practice>
Skateboard Park
My next project is a book in which I explore the influence of the music of Beyonce on the writings of J R R Tolkien. It's called "It you write it, you have to put a ring in it"

Plymouth-Banjul (Gambia) Challenge
Bernard created a set of stamps. These were attached to envelopes and cards which were sold to subscribers.
The plan was that the cards and envelopes would be carried on the cars to Banjul and then posted back to the subscribers. After a minor hitch, the cards and envelopes were sent out after the event.

£800 was raised for the charity.

We did the church roof at one point or other (and no, I don't mean nicking the lead).

Whether that had charitable status or not I have no idea.

What was the charity?

Not sure, This is taken from a write-up of the event
Arriving on the final stretch, there’s no real finishing line. Entrants on the rally are given a drop off point for the vehicles where a rally official take your keys and you sign your paperwork to pass on ownership to them. These cars will then be auctioned off and proceeds will go to selected charities. There’s no immediate rush, however; spend some time before your flight home saying goodbye to the hunk of junk that got you so far and explore the wonderful country.
As far as I know they are local Gambian charities.
