Blood on the Snow, the Hogswatch stamp

Ladies and Gentlemen of the Discworld Stamp Fraternity.

Twas the days before Hogswatch and all through the house, the perforator's humming at the hands of a souse.

Our Hogswatch event looms large on the horizon and as is traditional (meaning it has happened more than once) we have a celebratory stamp, LBE and cover.

This years stamp is a rich full colour illustrative stamps which tells the story of the dark past of Hogswatch, depicting the boar being pursued through a dark winter scene. The common stamp appears in each and every Hogswatch 2010 LBE, along with a generous sprinkling of the sport in lucky LBEs. As is customary, alongside the usual mix of sports, rarities and other special items, there will of course be prizes! You could win one of 25 exclusive Hogswatch design proof sheets, featuring a step by step illustration of how the design evolved and the colour balancing range, each sheet is signed and numbered. You may also be lucky enough to win the Rainbow Hog sheet, a perforated collectors display sheet of Hogswatch stamps with exclusive colour variants, only 25 of which will ever be released. There will also be the chance to get your mitts on free LBE vouchers. To make this LBE even more exciting, a coveted Hubwards Gate Blue Triangle Sport has been placed in an LBE at random.

This LBE is a limited edition of 1000, after season ticket LBEs have been reserved and sales on the day of the event, 400 LBEs have been reserved for sale on the web. They will be available from 12 noon GMT on Wednesday the 1st of December. This is to allow delivery to all parts of the known world in time for Christmas. They do tend to sell out rather swiftly, so if you are interested we would recommend you act promptly or organise a buyer on your behalf. Season tickets purchased up until the 1st will of course be honoured with a Hogswatch LBE so fret ye not Season Ticket holders.

Hogswatch 2010 Commemorative covers, sheets of Hogswatch Stamps and Single Stamps will also be made available on the 1st of December.

In Other News
-------------
The last LBE of the year, the Hogswatch Season LBE 2010, will be available very soon after the event. This LBE will include the Hogswatch Stamp as well as a special festive Tower of Art stamp, as voted for by our forum members.

As ever, we would like to thank all of you who follow Discworld Stamps and wish you all a very merry Hogswatch!

Greetings one and all,

Now that we have thawed and returned from our festive hibernation
we are pleased to begin this very Year of the Complicated Monkey,
as it has been deemed by Prof. Sir Terry Pratchett, with good
cheer, new releases and news of upcoming projects from your only
Discworld Emporium.

We are pleased to announce that our Thud (Table Edition) is back
on sale! This beautiful edition with cloth board and bag has been
our most popular to date, so if you missed out first time around
take a gander at the Great Game here:

Adorn your finest doors and walls, and make known your auspicious
connections!
Introducing our new Insignia Relief Collection – The coats of
arms of three most treasured institutions on the Discworld: The
Seamstress Guild, Assassins Guild, and Unseen University.
Sculpted by Mr Bernard Pearson, the Cunning Artificer himself,
and lovingly realised in a gorgeous antique wood finish, they
appear as though carved from ancient timber, as if hewn from a
heavy and creaking door in Ankh-Morpork.

Measuring approximately 9 x 11cms they cost £7.50 each or £20 for
all three plus delivery from your postman.

On the Discworld Stamps front, the New Year brings new
Definitives! The new range of AM stamps for the Year of the
Complicated Monkey, are currently in production with our tame
band of printers and we aim to make them available in sheets,
singles and a brand new LBE at the end of January together with
an accompanying consulate cover.

We shall therefore shortly wave goodbye to the Definitives for
the Year of The Happy Goose as they retire into the archives for
good. They will remain available right until the release of their
successors at the end of the month.

We will be sure to update you all with more details of price and
exact dates of release as and when they become available.

And so, as we gaze into Mrs Cakes crystal ball, we see a busy and
exciting year ahead with new products, exciting projects, and
conventions galore. Be sure to check your inboxes for updates

New offerings from the Artificers workshop...

A Happy February one and all,

We are, as Bernard would say, 'busy as a one legged arse-kicker'
here at the Discworld Emporium. The design team are working hammer and tong on new artwork for various and nefarious purposes, the workshop is being scrubbed, orders are being assembled and dispatched, stamps are being perforated and a brand new shop frontage is in development.

Thankfully though, we have found time to welcome some new additions to our range.

Introducing 'The Seamstress Guild Token of Affection'...

Based on the brothel tokens of 19th century France and modern incarnations of tokens from the Old West, this gleaming token entitles the recipient to enjoy a free ‘Tuppeney Upright’(ask your mum). So whether seamstress or customer this is your guarantee of a good time!

Nickel plated and textured, the tokens measure 40mm in diameter and are attached to a keying for safe keeping and easy access.

Bearing the insignia and motto of the Seamstress Guild on one side, and the value on the reverse, this gleaming warrant is the perfect promise of romance this Valentine’s day.

This witty little item will set you back a mere £3.95 - see it for yourselves here:
http://www.discworldemporium.com/catalo ... 0&catid=28

If you've laid eyes on our Discworld Flora and Fauna notecards, you'll recognise the designs by resident artist Ian Mitchell that grace our new coasters. The Curious Squid, Lancre Wowhawk, Quantum Weather Butterfly, Hermit Elephant, .303 Bookworm, and the Wahoonie, are all brought to life and into your homes for the price of £9.95 for a set of six.
These durable coasters are sure to add a refined touch to any dining table or sideboard.

Get all the details via the following link:

We hope these little offerings may cheer up a cold February afternoon, and perhaps raise a smile...or perhaps more.

All the best,

On a stampy note, this Monday 14th February we shall be making a
traditional offering to celebrate the day of amour. The limited
edition Valentines LBE will be available for 24 hours from the
stroke of 10 on Monday morning (GMT). Each LBE will contain an
exclusive Valentine Cinderella stamp designed especially by
Bernard Pearson, and one of 20 Billets-Doux; a romantic and
somewhat cheeky little gesture to warm the heart and cheer the
spirits. They will appear in the drawers marked ‘New Stamps’ and
‘Little Brown Envelopes’ in the Stamps section of our website.
Never heard of an LBE? Find out more here:
http://www.discworldemporium.com/catalog.php?category=9

Each LBE will also contain the brand-spanking new Discworld Stamp
sponsored by the Seamstress Guild. This sassy stamp, designed by
Ian Mitchell, will replace the 2008 2p ‘Horizontal’ as the
Guild’s standard issue. The stamps will be made available singly,
and in sheets on Friday 18th February.

As with all Limited Editions, the Valentine LBE will be
automatically included on season tickets, so if on the 14th
you’re off on a romantic tour around Blackpool or visiting your
mistresses you’re covered! Find out more here:

At the Discworld Emporium the bounding of Hares and emergence of
daffodils heralds a fresh crop of stamps and a new LBE edition!

The Spring Cabbage LBE is due out this Monday 7th March and as
the name would suggest, it doth contain the new 50p Cabbage Field
Stamp for The Year of the Complicated Monkey. In addition, each
LBE will contain the new Ankh-Morpork Elim – a stamp representing
the smallest unit of currency in the city, or one sixteenth of a
penny to be exact. Their coin counterpart may buy you:

“A candle stub, a small potato that’s only a bit green …or an
apple core that ain’t been entirely et” (Mr Shady the Eighteenth,
Making Money),

In postal terms these pretty little stamps would likely cover all
those sticky little items that needed to travel the shortest
distance in the longest time.

The LBE will be available from the Stamps section of our website
in the drawers marked ‘Little Brown Envelopes’ or ‘New Stamps’.

To preview this item please follow the link below:
http://www.discworldemporium.com/catalo ... 34&catid=9

Both stamps will be available singly and in sheets from the 7th.
For a sneaky peek of the Cabbage Stamp and Elim issues follow the
links!

Please note that last years Cabbage field edition shall be
withdrawn the very same day (7th of March), it can be found here:

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Next week will also see the issue of the Magical Realms stamp set
from the Royal Mail, featuring Rincewind and Nanny Ogg from the
pages of our favourite author. To commemorate this landmark issue
the Discworld Emporium has been busy preparing our own tribute.
As purveyors of Discworld Cinderella Stamps since 2004 how could
we resist? These items will be available for preview next week,
with more details to follow – so keep your eyes on your inboxes!

Best wishes to the lot of you,

To mark today's exciting release of Royal Mail’s ‘Magical
Realms’ stamps we’re proud to offer a set of two, limited
edition, Commemorative First Day Covers - created in celebration
of the affinity between the Post Office, both Roundworld and
Discworld, and our own Somersetshire postal portal. Due for
release on Friday 11th March, these complementary covers are
printed in Somerset by Rose Mills on parchment paper, and bear
the Two Royal Mail Discworld stamps featuring Nanny Ogg and
Rincewind, and one of two specially designed Discworld Emporium
postal labels.

The Magical Realms Ankh-Morpork Cover Features the Royal Mail
Discworld Stamps and our own postal label presenting the
Ankh-Morpork Post Office as depicted by David Wyatt, and
cancelled by an exclusive AMPO frank against a collaged
background of the city map and the famous fascia of AMPO itself

The Magical Realms Wincanton Cover presents an elegant pictoral
and written depiction of Ankh-Morpork’s twin town; the gateway to
the Discworld and the place where the postal connection between
worlds was born. This cover features Royal Mail’s Discworld
Stamps nestled merrily above a postal label featuring the
Wincanton Post Office, and cancelled by Wincanton Post Office’s
unique postal frank.

This commemorative issue is limited to an edition of two-hundred
sets and comprises the two covers with affixed stamps, inserts
and mint Cinderella stamps. It will cost £18.00 plus postage and
will be available in the ‘New Stamps’ and ‘First day and Special
Envelopes' drawers in the stamp section of our Website.

To preview covers please follow the link:

As previewed in our last newsletter, the new Spring Cabbage LBE
is now available for purchase here:

Greetings one and all,

It’s been a jolly rollercoaster of a week here at the Discworld
Emporium; the Gods in Dunmanifestin must be playing games with us
again. Anyone would think April Fools day was near. And so, with
excitements arriving like buses we’ve new treats and news to
impart in our own similarly sporadic fashion!

Our ‘Carrion regardless’ T-Shirts as previewed on Facebook are
now available from our website. Featuring Quoth the Raven and the
Death of Rats in the rather rebellious and Sir Terry-approved
artwork of Ian Mitchell, these cheeky tees will ensure you keep
your cool! Pay them a visit here:

DISCWORLD STAMP NEWS

The end of Mad March is nigh and being sticklers for tradition we
shall be releasing a limited edition April Fools LBE this Friday
the 1st.

Littered with trifles, you’ll either cry or laugh when you open
your little Brown Envelope to find two splendidly silly stamps
exclusive to this LBE only; The Foolish Monkey label a Beggars
Guild stamp. There may even be a Joculator’s Jest waiting to
raise the eyebrows in mild amusement (We have heard a
mischievious chuckle or two emanating from Bernard in the
creation of these items).

There’s also the chance of winning a prize ticket entitling you
to one of 25 sheets of these designs, along with the customary
mix of sports and rarities…and a rare Blue Triangle sport!

This hilarious LBE will be available for 24 little hours as of
10.00am BST on Friday morning.

For more information on Discworld Stamps and LBE’s look here:

In other stampy news, the first bi-annual Stanley Howler Stamp
Journal, number 24, has been dispatched this week and should be
in the hands of collectors very soon. As has been forewarned on
our forum, this also marks the end of all journal back issues and
associated offers – they shall be withdrawn from sale as of
tomorrow (Friday 1st).

Best wishes to one and all

Greetings Discworld Stampers,

Would you believe it? The Little Brown Envelope has reached the big 100!
So, having notched up a century of editions, we’re commemorating with a very special version indeed.

Only 1200 of these LBEs have been produced and, once season tickets have been allocated to, the remainder shall be split intofour batches and released on Monday 23rd and Friday 27th of May at 10.00am and 6.00pm BST.

For this exciting edition we’ve done away with our traditionallabel, and have given these humble little envelopes a touch of golden glamour. Inside each envelope will be a guaranteed £5.00 worth mix of current Discworld Stamps, as well as an exclusive celebratory Blue Triangle and the new Howondaland Stamp, with the chance of sports for each new issue.

As an extra treat, there will be a generous smattering of all our mailing labels and Cinderellas throughout the edition, and, as this is such a rare occasion, it’s has been decreed that this luxurious edition be a BLUE TRIANGLE BONANZA!! With not one, but TWO Hubwards Gate Blue Triangle Sports to find and at least a one in twenty chance of finding a common triangle.

The 100th LBE will be available in the ‘New Stamps’ and ‘Little Brown Envelope’ sections of our website.

The Howondaland stamp will also be available to purchase in sheets or singles from Monday 23rd May. This10 Wichit Bead general issue has been produced in Ankh-Morpork for issue from the port of Zambingo for use in the field by the brave explorers of the AM Trespassers society.
The stamp features the native Hermit Elephant betwixt two really rather peeved tribesmen, whose home it has appropriated. Although the stamp has not seen a great deal of use due to the survival rate in the dark and mysterious jungles of the area, it is nonetheless a handsome and cheerful issue executed in the charming local woodcut style and a delightful addition to a collection therefore.

The Howondaland 10WB issue will be available in the ‘New Stamps’ and ‘Regional Issues’ sections of our website.

Best wishes to you all,

NB Posted on the website not sent via email list.
(Small request to the shop - please don't fixate on facebookywook as the only place where you post updates and news - some of us refuse to use it and won't be changing our minds about it anytime soon!)

Emporium News
02/07/2011

It’s been a while since we posted any news directly to our home on the worldly wide webbington, and much dust has gathered. But no more! Facebook might have become our most regular landing pad for info about our products and goings on, but we will endeavour to keep abreast of current affairs at the Discworld Emporium and report them here in depth and for all to behold.

We have now (mostly) completed our role in the production of new Discworld board game; Ankh-Morpork, which has already bagged the award for Best Boardgame at the 2011 UK Games Expo. Designed by Martin Wallace of Treefrog games, Ankh-Morpork is due for release in September but has already achieved great success at demonstrations at conventions and events around the world. It’s been a real honour and pleasure to be part of Ankh-Morpork and to have worked alongside the extraordinary talent of Peter Dennis whose artwork has truly brought Discworld to life.

See the illustrated official press release for Ankh-Morpork! (http://www.discworldemporium.com/catalog.php?item=754)
See a selection of the cards, board and rules at Treefroggames.com (http://www.treefroggames.com/ankh-morpork)

The Discworld Emporium will also be undergoing some ‘home improvements’ in the near future both at our real shop and online. Working closely with Somerset based Blaze Concepts, we are striving toward a new incarnation of this website that will make the experience a little less erm, idiosyncratic, and ever so slightly less ramshackle. But do not fear! For we haven’t sold our souls quite yet - the new site will retain the same familiar Discworldian atmosphere and all the silliness so reflective of our beloved shop in Wincanton. We don’t have a specified date for launch; the project seems to be growing rather organically at the moment, indeed we strongly suspect that the engine behind it may be becoming sentient. Hopefully it won’t demand frog pills anytime soon.

Pending the thumbs up from the planning department, our real shopfront will shortly be faithfully restored to its original Georgian form with multiple-paned bay windows, hand painted signage and the AM coat of arms. We hope to achieve completion by Hogswatch...

Well, I was nae expecting this message which just popped into my inbox (so that looks like the shop's email subscription list is working properly again).

There and back again, an LBE's tale...

Home, home on the range!

We made it there and back again and had frolics galore in between! Thank you to the brave flatalists and friends who were so kind and attentive to us and our customers at the Emporium’s travelling shop at the weekend – your service and generosity was invaluable.

Now we are pleased to offer the remaining 193 commemorative LBEs (little brown envelopes full of assorted current Discworld stamps with a chance of specials and rarities) that travelled with us to the second North American Discworld Convention in Wisconsin.

They will be made available on Monday 8th July at 12 noon BST only, from here: http://www.discworldemporium.com/catalo ... 62&catid=9

Each LBE contains a commemorative Black Madison label with a chance of sports and, Following on from the Great Explorers theme of the last American Con LBE, a new Discworld Stamp commemorating the discoverer of the Discworld’s Second Highest waterfall - Guy De Yoyo.

1 in 20 envelopes contain the Red Madison label, otherwise exclusive to the convention committee. There’s also the chance to win one of 25 whole sheets each of Black Madisons and Red Madisons as well as free LBE tickets and a coveted, super-rare Blue Triangle Sport.

Hot off the presses of Teemer and Spools...

A delivery of two elegant new A-M Post Office issues commemorating two of Ankh-Morpork’s finest inventors: Leonard of Quirm and B.S. (Bloody Stupid) Johnson.
These handsome miniatures have been realised by the hands of Messrs. Ian Mitchell and Peter Dennis, whose incredible artworks adorn the soon to be released Ankh-Morpork Board game.
Each AM$3 stamp features a double lozenge containing full-colour portraits of the esteemed gentlemen and one of their notable creations; The Kite and, of course, the Postal Sorting Engine from the A.M.P.O itself.

On sale from Monday 15th August, the ‘Great Inventors of Ankh-Morpork‘ will be available as single stamps, in whole sheets and inside a new Little Brown Envelope edition; The Great Inventors LBE,
Each LBE will contain both new stamps along with the customary selection of current Discworld Stamps and the chance of sports and rarities. Find all items together in the New Stamps bit of our website!

Keep your eyes peeled for an exquisite limited edition commemorative envelope featuring both Great Inventors stamps, anticipated Friday 19th August!

Hogswatch 2011!
Our annual festive celebration will take place on the 26th and 27th November. Held in and around the hostelries of Wincanton, Hogswatch is an informal and somewhat relaxed gathering of like-minded folk and Discworld fans. Enjoy the company of some notable Discworld names, participate in lots of nonsense in the name of fun and charity, and celebrate the man in the hat! This year the Discworld Emporium celebrates its tenth year, and with that in mind it’s carnival/mardis gras time! So rummage in the dressing up box and go Gogol with a Genuan get up, or don your most mysterious mask for an elegant Brindisian flavour. Think sequins, feathers, pox doctors and voodoo!
