From Bad Blintz A Cover Comes

Another little gem for your collection, the design of stamps and iconography being liberally looted from German designs of the Weimar Republic. This is not the first time a Pearson has come home from Germany with more in his kit bag than his uniform but my dear old Dad is dead now and its well past the statute of limitations. But the tradition lives on.....

From The Guild Of Alchemists

A very special limited edition artefact from the Guild of Alchemists may be seen on our website now. This item will be available for sale on Monday 15th June at 12 midday. There are just 100 of these items and we would request that you limit your purchase to one per customer, unless buying on behalf of another collector. We guarantee that this artefact is now mostly harmless. We think....

A New Stamp

We are jolly pleased to announce that the ancient and honourable trade of gift shoppe features in this new stamp from Two Shirts as mentioned in "Hat Full of Sky" and we feel proud to be part of the multiverse gift shoppe fraternity.

You might also like to know that the following stamps will be retired on July 10th. The Lawyers Guild $5, the Genua $5 and both of the Djelibeybi stamps. Limited stocks are available. The Flaming June LBE will also cease on this date.

Have a great weekend - Isobel and I are at a sculpture exhibition ... in a garden ... in a posh country house - I will be watching my language & so will Isobel if I sneak off for a smoke.

B

NADWCON stamps

The North American Discworld Convention looms large on the
horizon so bags are being packed, stock is being sent and cats
are being stuffed with enough food to keep them going for a week.

We thought you might like to know about some of the products
we have prepared especially to commemorate this grand adventure.

The NADWcon stamp and Tillson Variant

These have been designed by Bernard Pearson to commemorate the
first US Discworld Convention.
The design is based on the Convention Logo rendered into an
engraved frame. The background images show the American Flag
surmounted by shields bearing the Ankh-Morpork coat of arms and
the official insignia of the city of Tempe, where the convention
is situated.
A limited edition of 100 Commemorative Covers bearing this stamp
and the convention logo have been produced by Bernard and
presented to the Convention Committee for them to sell for the
benefit of the Convention and its charity.

A version of this cover will be issued by the Discworld Emporium
for sale in the UK.

The Tillson Variant
'When this stamp was being drawn up I had the Con logo as a
central motif. This powerful and well constructed design which
required a background that could hold its own, there had to be
'gravitas' so i looked for something symbolic of both the
Convention and the place where it was being held.
The national flag was the obvious choice but the artwork i copied
from was from an old book and I got the flag wrong - it's all in
the details as I keep being told. I sent a rough of the design
off to my dear friend Jean Tillson: bless her and her keen
eyesight, she spotted the flag was wrong and told me immediately.
However I had rendered the design into a sheet format for a trial
print, indeed i had made a trial print, but just two sheets.
As soon as I received her mail I went back to the drawing board
and stripped out the design substituting the correct number and
deposition of stars.

Because the British Library have all our archive, including
working drawings and final sheets, we sometimes annotate the
drawings to help the archivists. Also in the past certain
designers gave their stamps titles to distinguish one impress
from another. This stamp just had to be called 'The Tillson
Edition' named for the person who saved me from so much
embarrassment.'

So there are two sheets of this original stamp. one will be
auctioned at the US Convention and one will be put in the safe
for the auction at the next UK Convention. The sheets are signed,
dated and numbered.

The Amazing Gone West LBE
Release date 4th September 09
1000 of these special LBEs have been prepared and 500 will be
sold online from our website. More information on the time of the
release will be made available on Tuesday 1st September.
Each LBE will contain a NADWCON stamp and 1 in 50 will, in
addition, contain a Tillson Variant.

After the pre-sold LBEs have been reserved, the remainder will be
taken to the Convention. Any unsold will then be made available
in our online store after our return on September the 9th.

Also in these LBEs we are introducing the first 3 stamps from The
Ankh Morpork Trespasser's Society Great Explorers series.
When you have the pleasure of reading 'Unseen Academicals' you
will find a mention of this august body. As Terry pointed out to
me, there is undoubtedly a very rich seam to mine with this lot,
so watch out. I would advise those of a delicate nature no to
look too closely into the details of the Lady Alice Venturi
stamp. It would appear she had a very 'Interesting' life. The
images in these stamps have been drawn by the Mitchell during
brief bouts of sobriety and approved by one sir knight. Designed
by Bernard Pearson.

There will be prize tickets included in the LBEs, 30 full sheets
of the NADWcon stamp each including a Tillson Variant sport. 10
Commemorative Covers with the NADWcon stamp Tillson Variant. 10
sets of joined Great Explorers sports. There will also be the
usual 50 free LBE vouchers mixed in there.

The Great Explorers stamps will be available singly and in sheets
from September the 4th in our online store.
Details of the time of release of these LBEs will be announced on
the news section of our website from the 1st of September. In the
mean time if you would like to have your say on the release time
then there is a poll running for three days from today on our
forum in the stamp section. The last time we had an event LBE on
sale it sold out very fast (300 in under 6 minutes) so to avoid
disappointment we would appreciate your opinion in this matter to
avoid disappointment.

A New LBE and Rumblings in the Workshop (Study)

Today sees the launch of the new Off the Wall LBE with two rather
interesting items in each. For more information please see the
stamp section of our online store. Later today we shall also be
putting up a new Green Cabbage Trading Scheme item.

Finally, it may interest you to know that the workshop ('It's NOT
a bloody studio, there's no naked ladies' BP) has been swept and
cleaned, and a certain stout party is just starting to gather his
tools for a range of new Discworld Sculptural items. These will
be appearing between now and Hogswatch, so watch this space!

Hope you're all well.
Warm wishes

Great Explorers and Smoking Gnus!

This week sees the release of two exciting new items that will appeal to the most distingushed 'Flatalist' as well as those disposed to a little bit of anarchy.

The 'Great Explorers of Discworld' Commemorative Cover is available as of today. This attractive, highly detailed cover celebrates three members of the 'Ankh-Morpork Trespassers Society'. Produced in creams, greens, earthy sepia tones, and bearing all three Explorer stamps, this cover is a lovely thing indeed.

To feast your eyes or make a purchase, follow the link: http://www.discworldemporium.com/catalog.php?item=537&catid=17

Also, our resident Art College graduate has been whipped raw to bring you the Smoking Gnu Mini-sheet, available for purchase on Monday 28th September at Midday. Each sheet of twelve stamps is presented in a beautifully textured booklet and hand-stencilled with the Smoking Gnu logo. Show your allegiance to the boys on the Post Office roof with this artistamp/punk-esque addition to your collection.

Best Wishes to you all!

Foot the ball is coming home!

What a jolly little lot we have to tell you all.

We at the Discworld Emporium have all been rather busy of late.

With Unseen Academicals appearing on bookshelves across the country, football fever is sweeping the Discworld fraternity!

On Saturday, (10th October) Transworld will be hosting the official launch of this fabulous book here in Wincanton at the Sports Ground, located on Moor Lane (www.wincantonsportsground.co.uk). Festivities commence with an opening ceremony at noon, followed by a grueling series of football matches including various teams such as the UU, Ankh-Morpork United, and the Dolly Sisters. Admission will set you back a measly £1.00 (proceeds to be donated to Wincanton Football Club) and Food and drink will be available for purchase with vast quantities of pies, cider, and bacon baps. Sir Terry will be attending with ample intentions of doing nowt but enjoying himself!

The Cunning Artificers' Discworld Emporium will be open Friday, and the mornings of Saturday and Sunday for you to get your ‘shop-fix’ and the possible chance of a cuppa,

Our stunning set of football cards, created in collaboration with Paul Kidby, will be released this weekend, available as full sets and in beautiful mounted frames. A traditional card album is available to complement the cards

New Discworld Stamps, featuring three eminent participants in Ankh-Morpork’s ‘beautiful’ game will be available singly, as a sheet and in a new LBE (Little Brown Envelope, a lucky dip of at least £5 worth of mixed Discworld Stamps with the chance to get your hands on sports, rarities and prizes). ‘The Jolly Football LBE’ will include one of the new football cards, the usual sports and, in addition, will be the first to include the new Wildcard prize ticket (about 1 in 25 LBEs). If you are lucky enough to find a Wildcard in an LBE it entitles you to collect a sport of your choice from the LBE in which it was found, a wonderful way to patch the holes in your collection. Simply contact the shop at your leisure. (This excludes any Blue Triangle Stamps) This LBE is not a limited edition but will run for only one week, from Friday the 9th of October to Friday the 16th. The Off The Wall LBE will continue to run alongside the Football LBE.

We’ve begun work on a brand new website to complement our main site. www.discworldevents.com We aim to make this a visual reference for all the goings on here at the Discworld Emporium, especially the events. There will be photographic evidence of past celebrations and details of upcoming Events, It will also list local accommodation and places to eat and details of events we will be attending. In the long term we aim to make this a space for you to use to submit memories, stories, pictures and comments, and for those who have never been before, to see all the fun for themselves. We will also be using it to give you a sneaky peek into the inner workings of the Discworld Emporium and our latest projects. Its still under construction but for a preview of things to come feel free to check it out. (A special thanks to Justin Thompson, Christine Russell, Reb Voyce and Mr Steve James for supplying many of the photos, Proper credits will be sorted out very soon!).

We also plan some major changes to the forum on our main site. On Sunday the 11th we will be giving the forum a face lift, removing some of the little used cul-de-sacs and giving everything a new look. Fear not as this should only effect use for a few hours and once everything is working again please bear with us as things ‘bed in’.

We would like to thank everyone for making our new Facebook page (http://www.facebook.com/pages/Discworld ... 0497847377) so much fun by adding their own photos and leaving such fabulously kind comments. All the above is aimed at making it easier for you all to keep in touch with each other and see what we are up to. As always we would like to thank you all for your continuing support and good will and for making what we do possible.

All the best,
The Cunning Team.

Autumn's here again...

Walking into the workshop this morning the air had a certain chill, the mist was rolling in the streets and that glorious smell of autumn hung in the breeze. It’s times like this which were made for warm fire sides, good hearty food and settling in for a nice long hibernation.

Fat chance! We have been busy wee bunnies here at the Discworld Emporium, making new things and starting to put together some select new pieces together in time for Hogswatch. Mr Paul Kidby has succumbed and has accepted the challenge to produce one of this year’s Hogswatch Stamps, these will be launched in mid November.

To keep you all going we have a couple of offerings this chill autumn day.

The Ankh Morpork Post Office Commemorative Football Stamps, also featuring Paul Kidby’s work, are now available on the Unseen Academicals Commemorative Cover (being an edition of 200 illustrated envelopes with the date of the book launch franked upon it). This Cover makes a lovely souvenir for all those who managed to attend, for those who didn’t we have put together the football collectors pack, this includes an Unseen Academicals Commemorative Cover, a souvenir program from the launch event (proceeds to charity) and a souvenir ticket for the same. The cover and program are available singly if you so wish. And can be found here: http://www.discworldemporium.com/catalo ... 9&catid=17

Also on the stampy front, Bernard Pearson of the Discworld Emporium was asked to produce a commemorative cover for Stamp Magazines 75th anniversary. Not a Discworld item but seeing as it has been so much fun producing it for these lovely people we thought it worth a mention.

For those who use the Green Cabbage Trading Stamps there are new trading rates available to download from the GCTS section of our online shop.

We have also managed to obtain a rare and highly functional item from the Discworld itself. As you know all good dwarfs of a discerning nature in Ankh Morpork enjoy a taste of home in Gimlets Hole Food Delicatessen. With great pride we can now offer you the chance to adorn your kitchen with an exclusive tea towel from this very eatery. This lovely addition to your kitchen will provide you with all you need to aid your culinary adventures.

The Rat Cut Nomenclature in which you can see exactly where a fine dwarfish butcher can find the tastiest cuts and of course the green wobbly bits to avoid, special offers on Rat Pie Surprise and with other important information on this fine establishment. Your kitchen can no be home to a little piece of the Discworld which is not only real enough to touch but also wipe stuff up with! Produced on high quality natural cream cotton and screen printed in a rich brown, this tea towel is fully washable and should last you a lifetime or until you next spill something icky. It can be found here: http://www.discworldemporium.com/catalo ... 51&catid=6

Until next time, keep warm, keep well and stay happy The Cunning Team
