Autumn Leaves and Bloomin thieves.

As the days grow shorter the Thieves Guild enjoys the extra darkness in which they can go about thier business unhindered. To mark the glory of the season in all it's benefits we have release the new Thieves Guild Four Penny Issue Stamp. A beautiful stamp, realised in shades of blue, in classical style featuring the guild coat of arms.
To accompany this new stamp we offer the new Autumnal LBE which each contain the new Thieves Guild Stamp. Both can be fond in the 'New Releases' section of our online stamp shop.

Seasons best to you all from the Discworld Emporium.

Irish Convention update

Top o the Mornin'.

We're off to the Emerald Isle! Having had so much fun at the American Convention we thought we would do it again! This time the Cunning Artificers Glee Club Outing is off to Ireland for the very first Irish Dicsworld Convention. With guest of honour Sir Terry Pratchett and other guests including Diane Duane, Peter Morwood, Colin Smythe, Jack Cohen and indeed Bernard and Isobel Pearson and with the addition of a certain black and white drinky, it promises to be worth a Guinea a minute. Why not come join us if you can, for further information please see idwcon.org.

To mark this event Bernard has produced a commemorative postal label. This will be available in the Irish Convention LBE. The Irish Discworld Convention LBE will be available from Friday 6th November to Friday 13th. It will run concurrently with the Autumnal LBE and in fact the only difference will be the inclusion of a special commemorative stamp and an over-print on the LBE. To set your minds at rest, there is no sport variation with this Convention stamp.

We will reserve one of these special LBE’s for Season Ticket holders, though collectors with multiple season tickets may prefer us to split their holding between the two LBE’s because the variation from the Autumnal LBE is slight. Please let us know.

As with the US Convention we have donated 100 special Commemorative covers for the Convention Charity. These will be available at the Convention and any remaining will be put up for sale by the committee after the Con. We are producing our own Commemorative Cover (edition of 200) which will be on sale from Friday 6th November

Hope you are all well,
All the best

Arivals and Departures

Postby the_apprentice » Fri Jan 08, 2010 05:42 pm

A Happy New Year to you all!

January is upon us again, and the snow brings with it a seasonal sprinkling of stamps to test even the most resolute of resolutions:

A New LBE for the Year of the Happy Goose.
Containing a new stamp from the Guild of Musicians, an edition 'Performed' by the Ankh-Morpork Post Office to celebrate yet another of Ankh-Morpork's great Guilds. It features treble clefs surrounding the Guild coat of arms, executed in 'Deep Harmonic Blues' with a trill of 'Sharp Chromatic Reds'. The stamps cost 40 pennies each and a sheet of 25 stamps will set you back £10.00. Each LBE will also contain an exclusive 21/2 p surcharge stamp to reflect the increase in VAT from 1st January. These will only ever be available in this issue of LBEs.
And before you ask, yes there is a sport, but we’ve sprinkled them liberally into the LBE’s so you stand a very good chance of getting one.

Further News

The Theives Guild 4p Stamp now has its place on the GCTS rates which can be found in the usual place http://www.discworldemporium.com/catalo ... ategory=24

There will not be a blanket price increase to cover the additional tax, but we will no longer routinely be giving away Picture cards with orders as we did last year. They are all still available to purchase. However there may still be a little 'something' in each order just for fun.

Say goodbye to the Klatch 10wol and 50wol stamps which are now retiring together with the Bonk 100 and 120 bizot.
The remaining sheets we have of these stamps are now on the endangered list.
We will continue to accept returns of these for GCTS until the end of February.

A series of new Ankh Morpork Definitive stamps to celebrate the Year of The Happy Goose will be issued in early February together with a new Tower of Art stamp.
All the current definitives will be retired at the end of January and we plan to produce the usual series of Consulate Envelopes and an Archive Proof sheet to record them.
We will continue to accept returns of The Pensive Hare definitives for GCTS until the end of March.

We are planning a few changes to the website over the next week or so. Nothing too drastic – just a rearrangement of product in a form that’s easier to locate – we hope.

Many Thanks,
Hope you are all well

Greetings to you all upon this fine eve.
Just a quick note from us all at the Discworld Emporium to let
you know that the second Letter to Pseudopolis is now available
for those of you who partake in the Green Cabbage Trading Scheme
(details of the scheme is available here
http://www.discworldemporium.com/catalo ... ategory=24).
Young Master Sock is now attending Thresher's School in
Pseudopolis. Mrs Sock has recieved the invoice for fees etc and
is reminding the school that they have overcharged, as is her
wont, due to the fact that the credit note for delivery of
"Wholesome Meats" has not been included in the total. Once again
the stamp is the original 10p Morporkia which was printed
digitally while we were waiting for the very first delivery of
stamps from Enschede. Only 1200 stamps were produced in this way.
There is a unique frank on the envelope from the Mobile Post
Office in Quarry Lane. This item is the second in a range of
three letters telling the story of young Master Socks Scholastic
Career.

Also available from today is the Musicians Guild FDC, being an
edition of 200 illuminated DL envelopes bearing the Musicians
Guild Coat of Arms upon a musical stave along side the Guild
Motto. Sporting a Musicians Guild 2p Stamp and containing an
insert, this cover is an attractive piece of 'Flately' to
accompany your collection.

We are currently putting together Journal 21 ready for print at
the end of this month. This is the last call for competition
entries, articles, letters, cartoons, information and anything
else you may feel like contributing. Send it all to
isobel@cunningartificer.demon.co.uk

Also just so you know we have just about finished work on this
years definitives which are about to go to the printers for final
proofing. After 2 months of hard work by a certain stout party we
hope to make them available for you all in the first(ish)
week(ish) of February as is traditional.

Many thanks as ever for your support and comments, hope you are
all well and keeping warm.

All the best,
The Cunning Team.

Greetings all,

Hare today, Goose Tomorow.

Just a quick note to let you all know...
Bernard has just returned back at HQ after overseeing the
printing of the new Year of the Happy Goose definitives (being
the new Ankh-Morpork 1/2p 1p 2p 5p 10p and the $1 Tower of Art).
It is therefore the time of year when we lay to rest the previous
years definitives. All of which are now on the endangered list
and will be available up until Friday 5th of February. The Happy
Goose Definitives will be unveiled very soon along with a new LBE
and followed closely by the next installment of the Stanley
Howler Stamp Journal.

With a special Valentines Day offering, the Fourm Membership
stamp and with various proof sheets, Consulate envelopes and
Green Cabbage Trading updates all coming soon, we will be sure to
keep you informed as much as possible.

Many thanks,

100% Proof

Ladies, Gentlemen and Divers Species of the Flatalist Society,

Just a very quick note to let you know that if you ever needed
proof that the Year of the Happy Goose is long gone, may we
introduce the Archive Proof Sheets!
Printed on a heavy, archive-quality silk paper this set of two
sheets features all the definitives together with their sports
set in an illuminated surround on one sheet. The other sheet
features the One Dollar Tower of Art common stamp along side all
five sports with their variants detailed. This limited edition of
200 of each sheet is offered at a special price when bought
together and can currently be found here:

http://www.discworldemporium.com/catalo ... ategory=17

For those Consulate Collectors amongst you:
Also new this week are the first two Consulate Envelopes for the
Year of the Happy Goose. One featuring the new Ha'penny and Penny
Patrician and the other featuring the Morporkia Five and Ten
penny Stamps. Both can currently be found at the link above.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank all of you who
have emailed us with your kind comments and feedback on our
newest stamps. Your opinion really does matter and drives us
forward. With this in mind, keep your eyes on your inbox…
As a certain saint’s day approaches in our world, a new LBE with
a new stamp from a certain fitting destination, as yet unseen in
the Discworld Stamp portfolio, will be upon us very soon.
Due to the popularity of the ‘Discworld Definitives LBE’, and the
brevity of the month, it will continue to run for a couple of
weeks alongside the new LBE when it is released.

Many thanks as ever,

On the ball!

Football fever is in the air.

The Round-World Cup has taken over the airwaves and flags and banners are flying all over the world. However…
…The important thing about football, it has been said, the really IMPORTANT thing about football, is that it is not just about football.
So, to celebrate the launch of Unseen Academicals in paperback as well as the World Cup kick-off, we've a new football-based commemorative issue from Ankh-Morpork Post Office, a tactical substitution if you will.

The Going Postal LBE has been benched and roaring onto the pitch, we introduce to you, the 'On The Ball LBE' (A 'Little Brown Envelope' containing an assortment of at least £5.00 worth of Discworld Stamps with the chance of additional rarities, sports and oddities). Each LBE is guaranteed to contain the new stamp featuring The Hippo itself. The Hippo, that theatre of dreams, home of the beautiful game. A place where a crowd becomes a beast, and the beast wants blood. This ancient site in city of Morpork has not always been home to horse racing and football. It has a darker past.
The spirit of the Hippo has been captured with this pictorial One Dollar Commemorative Issue from the Ankh-Morpork post office.
Featuring a view from the terraces during match day at the Hippo, set into a deep green surround. In addition, each LBE will contain the re-coloured, re-printed Pseudopolis Clacks Post stamp as a free gift due to a printing error on the last edition. There will be no sport for the re-print.To learn more about this LBE please follow the link below:
http://www.discworldemporium.com/catalo ... 82&catid=9

This LBE will run for a few weeks with further details on more new releases to follow. The Hippo $1 Commemorative Issue will continue to run in subsequent LBEs and is also available as single stamps or in sheets of 15 from today onwards. More details on this stamp at the link below:

Anything to Declare?

As we all know, the major embuggerance with far flung travel
isn't the language barrier, nor the dizzying expense, niether the
worry of how to get a decent cup of tea. The bain of all
travellers in the known multiverse is of course....the dreaded
luggage carosel!

Whist waiting at the luggage carousel with a well known Knight of
the Realm we pondered on the meaning of life, butterflies and why
bloody luggage took so long to vomit forth from the bowels of the
aircraft and why, when it did, it all came out looking the same.
Cases eventually hoved into view and a mighty host descended on
them like vultures on a recently deceased wildebeest. The gentle
Knight and I stood back.
Eventually there were only half a dozen cases and bags slowly
perambulating in front of us. All were black, all were
indistinguishable from one another, scuff marks, name tags,
labels on handles, all were morphed into one great proto-luggage.
We pecked and grabbed picking out and tossing back bag after bag.
He turned to me, this friend of mine and remarked that some
clever bugger who called himself an artificer should have come up
with Discworld luggage labels by now. I hung my head in shame and
selected a case I knew was not mine, but was of a much better
quality.

At long last, Ladies and Gents, we can offer you a brand new
shiny set of labels from far flung corners of Discworld to aid
your travel in this world, and remind you of your travels in
another!

Many thanks,
Bernard.

Happy Birthday Discworld Stamps!

Six years ago on the 9th of July, Discworld Stamps were born.
Many feats and firsts have been conquered, designs have come and
gone, and well over a million stamps have been produced. In this
year alone thousands of little envelopes (brown ones!) have been
filled with thousands more little gummed pictures, the original
stamps were packed off and sent to become stars of the small
screen in Sky1's film adaptation of Going Postal, and the
Emporium has been bestowed with an exclusive and sticky
commission indeed. What a year it has been, ladies and gentlemen.

To celebrate the 6th Anniversary we have produced the 'Now we
are 6!' LBE, an edition of 1000 which will go on sale this FRIDAY
9TH JULY. After Season Ticket LBEs have been allocated and enough
LBEs to cover the free LBE vouchers reserved, the remaining LBEs
will be released in two batches, the first at 9am BST and the
second at 6pm BST.

Each LBE will contain the final Clacks-Post Stamp - a Koom Valley
edition exclusive to this LBE (includes sport!). In addition
Bernard has prepared a special 6th anniversary postal label (sans
sport!).
As well as the rich mixture of stamps, sports and rarities you
may also be lucky enough to obtain a prize ticket allowing you to
claim one of the following:

- A special 6th Birthday FDC, plus mint stamp.(20 available)
- A sheet of 6th Birthday stamps. (10 available)
- A sheet of Koom Valley Clacks stamps.(10 available)
- A Mini-Sheet of 6th Birthday Penny Patrician stamps. (10
available)
These items are exclusive to this LBE and only available to prize
ticket holders.

These editions of special LBEs have been known to sell out rather
swiftly so if you want yours, be sure to act promptly and
courteously. Of course, those who hold LBE season Tickets will
automatically have one LBE reserved for each season ticket they
hold.

In Other News...

New Green Cabbage Trading Rates are now available, along with a
new item! Both can be found here, along with more information on
the GCTS scheme...
http://www.discworldemporium.com/catalo ... ategory=24

Coming soon... As our old friends, the UU stamps come close to
retirement, keep your eyes out for the results of a rather
magical accident.

As ever we would like to thank you all for your support over the
last 6 years, for making this project what it is today, for your
ideas and feedback, for so generously helping each other (and
us!) out on our forum, for making it all such fun and of course
for being responsible for the success of Discworld Stamps. Long
may it continue.

Dear Flatalists,

Here at the Emporium, things have been rather busy. We have had
storms, rain AND grandchildren. But we would like to tell you all
about the long awaited Unseen University Stamps!

From the cabinet of curiosities, deep in the Unseen University,
we are proud to offer three specimens of stamps that have
transmogrified under the random influence of loose and willful
magic. Such is the unique nature of these small pieces of paper
that they’ve been acquired by the library for their permanent
archive much in the same way that our own stamps reside in the
British collection.

As we all know, as a place with a high level of background magic,
the university has played host to many an extraordinary magical
accident. Consequently, the staff and pupils have learned to
respect the power of words; tomes, documents and scribblings
piled together tend to bend the very fabric of reality, and It
would seem that old stock of Unseen University Stamps have fallen
victim to the magic fields, causing a shift and change in their
appearance. After rigorous testing however, we are assured that
the magic has dispersed and believe these items to be mostly
harmless. We offer them to you, dear reader for proud display in
your own collections.

These curious transformations are presented as a perforated
strip, and are partnered with their original envelopes and slips
from the Unseen University Archive.

To learn more about these magical items, follow the link below.
But be not afeared, there are plenty for everyone and these items
are limited to an edition of 250. They should remain available
for some time to come.

http://www.discworldemporium.com/catalo ... 2&catid=11

The brand spanking new stamps in all their glory will be released
in the Little Bit Of Summer Magic LBE on the 18th of July. A
date, which according to the Ankh-Morpork Post Office Diary
(2007) is known as Tiny Post Day. The publication of the
fourteenth edition of the Post Office Regulations had in it a
small typographical error on page 127 so that the rules stated:
‘Envelopes less than four inches in length and two and
three-quarter inches in width must be used’ The omission of the
word ‘not’ led to the Broad Way Post Office being presented with
more than two thousand letters measuring around one inch. Thus,
if you are lucky, you may find a piece of ‘tiny post’ in select
LBE’s. Each one unique, and bearing no stamp but the old
fashioned frank of the AMPO, these little blighters are simply to
jolly up the LBEs. These LBE’s will run for a good long while, up
until a week before the next LBE in time for the Discworld
Convention on the weekend of the 27th of August.

The full sheets of the new Unseen University Stamps will be made
available for next weekend, on Friday the 23rd and again, will
run for at least a year.

Many thanks one and all,
All the best from the team at the Cunning Artificer’s Discworld
Emporium.

Coventions and inventions!
Greetings all!
We have returned from our travels to the Discworld Convention in Birmingham - and what a hoot! We met many new faces, hid from some old ones and generally had an amazing time. We would like to extend a massive thanks to all who gave the Discworld Emporium such a warm welcome, and for putting together such a fabulous event.
For those who missed it, we did have with us a few new trinkets to amuse and bemuse. So, without further ado let us reveal our wares!
Firstly, The Anoia Votive Tea Towel:
We could all use a hand in the kitchen, so get yourself some divine intervention!

Anoia, Goddess of Things That Get Stuck in Drawers. When someone rattles a drawer and cries "What is this funny-shaped knife? Do we ever use it?" and "I know we had a bottle opener in here somewhere", even though the person might be mildly irritated or even seriously exasperated, it is as praise unto Anoia nonetheless. Faithful Anoians (worshippers of Anoia) purposefully rattle their drawers and complain every day. Be sure to keep Anoia close to your kitchen with this special votive tea towel depicting the goddess herself along with the motto 'Keep safe our kitchens and guard our drawers'.
Screen printed, in a soft fresh blue, onto a high quality white cotton tea towel, this is sure to brighten up the dishes as well as your kitchen! Almost guaranteed to get the Discworld fan in your life to happily do the washing up for ever more. Perhaps.
To find out more about the Anoia Tea Towel follow the link below:
http://www.discworldemporium.com/catalo ... 0&catid=23

---------------------------------------
Next we have the Jolly Useful Discworld Tins!
Stash your tobacco, trinkets or treasures in one of these and you're sure to raise a smile. A stout tin With a goodly rubber seal which should withstand all that the weather and even the grubbiest pocket can throw at it.
The Dried Frog Pill tin - Anura assus diripio - illustrated with the very species preferred by everyones favorite bursar
The Wizla tin - the magic of a good smoke - as designed by Bernard Pearson for Sky One's adaptation of The Hogfather
or the Jolly sailor tobacco tin - featuring artwork, exclusive to the Discworld Emporium, by the master of Discworld imagery, Paul Kidby
Again...these can be found at the link below:
http://www.discworldemporium.com/catalo ... 1&catid=23

------------------------------------------
Of course, none of our wares could come into being without the words and world on Sir Terry Pratchett and so we are very pleased to be able to offer you his latest and one of his greatest works. I Shall Wear Midnight, the long anticipated fourth installment in the Tiffany Aching series. This fabulous novel can be found here:
http://www.discworldemporium.com/catalo ... 2&catid=23

To celebrate this new work, we are please to offer a preview of a very special and exclusive piece which is still in development. Something which captures an iconic image from the book in solid gold. Do have a look and if you would like to express an interest in this piece you will find details on our site. The concept sketch can be found here:
http://www.discworldemporium.com/catalo ... 3&catid=23

---------------------------------------------
For those of you who collect Discworld Stamps, we have one new offering available today - the Discworld Convention Commemorative Cover, featuring the special edition Uberwald Discworld Convention stamp along with a typographic legend, printed on a light blue envelope. The stamp has been franked with an exclusive convention mark and set within the Uberwald Postals frame. It can be found here:
http://www.discworldemporium.com/catalo ... 4&catid=17

Also we have your final warning, the remaining Convention LBEs will be spilt into 2 batches, the first lot to go on sale at 10AM BST on Saturday the 4th. The second batch will go on sale, the same day at 6PM BST. Do keep an eye out because they have been known to go very fast!

------------------------------------------------
So thank you friends and disciples for your kind attention and be sure to keep an eye out on the news section of our website, and on our Facebook page for upcoming information and updates of our Hogswatch event on 27th and 28th November.

What-ho all!

Life in the stamp mines has been as fraught as ever, but we have
been working on a new seam which has resulted in some fine
offerings.

Available now for purchase - The Merchants Guild LBE!

This issue introduces a new addtion the Discworld Stamps range -

The Merchants Guild $2 Morporkia:

Ankh-Morpork traders are much like the city itself. They have
risen from the murky pool of A-M citizens to great things,
driving commerce and economics all over the Disc. To be known as
an Ankh-Morpork merchant adds real value to a business and so the
Guild have chosen a regal image symbollic of the city itself,
rising from the mud flats of the River Ankh. Morporkia heroically
riding her iconic hippos, Roderick and Keith, resplendantly
through the dense river mud to forge this mighty city, truly
reinforces the Ankh-Morpork ethic that 'where there's muck,
there's brass'. The adoption of this image by the Guild of
Merchants speaks volumes about how integral commerce is to the
very fabric of the city, and certainly not ones to miss a trick,
the Merchants have also made very cunning use of the selvedge!

The Merchants Guild $2 Morporkia is guaranteed in each and every
LBE along side the usual mix of stamps, sports and rarities.

As an added bonus, at the request of those pesky kids in the
Essex Regional Flatalist Society, a free stamp exclusive to this
edition only, will also appear in every LBE...

Dear all!

Hogswatch is coming, the pig is getting fat – for those joining us at this year’s event on the 27th – 28th November, Meal Tickets are now available for purchase from our website. Possessing a ticket will entitle you to join the Officer’s Mess sausage supper at a Wincanton hostelry on the Saturday evening. – find them in the shop on our main website or travel direct via the following link!
http://www.discworldemporium.com/catalog.php?item=554

Tickets can be collected from the shop as of Friday 26th November, and we request that bookings be made before November 15th.

There are plenty of local dining opportunities for those wishing to source their nourishment elsewhere of course, but nowhere else can be guaranteed to bring a touch of Discworld ambience to the evening than our traditional Hogswatch feast.

In other, more stampy news...

For those who collect Discworld Stamps:
The Merchants' Guild $2 stamp is now available in sheets and as single stamps at the following link:
http://www.discworldemporium.com/catalo ... 3&catid=17

Also, this is your official warning... Bernard has been having fun!
The Boffo's Joke Emporium Postal Pack is now available for preview. An edition of 100 of these will go on sale on Monday the 18th of October at 6PM (BST)

Here is an address from Bernard 'The Cunning Artificer' Pearson on the subject:

"If any of you lot say this particular package has been particularly dear to the stout party's heart you may well be right. From the moment my learned friend shared his vision with me of the Boffo Emporium I took to it like a small boy to farty noises. Why? Well its all about Jokes, Jolly Japes and amusing; if somewhat infantile, apparatus. The stuff of our childhood for Terry and I."

This pack will cost £15 and includes a plethora of Discworldly Delights.

To preview the item and to learn more, follow the link below:
http://www.discworldemporium.com/catalo ... 2&catid=17

(A general release issue of this pack, containing only the unstamped envelope, a Boffo Catalogue and a Boffo Whoppee Cushion will be made available at a later date for non-stampy people!)

Thank you all, as ever, we hope you enjoy our little offerings.
All the best,
The Cunning Team
from all at Discworld Emporium.

Flatalist friends one and all,

Tis the time to be roasting yer nuts on a roaring fire, dining on
rich foods that coats the ribs, and remembering why we hate
hedgehogs so very much - the lucky biggers get to hibernate.

To welcome this changing of the season, we thought it only
fitting to give you all something to fill the long winter
nights...

The Winters' Welcome LBE!

n this marvellous new edition of our lucky-dip style envelope you
will find the usual mix of Discworld Stamps, sports and rarities
along with two brand new additions to our range -both guaranteed
in each and every LBE.

Introducing the Ramtop Regional Post Summer and Winter stamps!
Produced in Ankh-Morpork for use in the chilly climbs of the Hub,
a place where folk-lore and fables rule the land and lives of a
people whose spiritual connection to the natural world is as
strong as anywhere on the Disc. These new stamps celebrate the
story of Summer and Winter in their eternal dance.

The serene reign of the Summer Lady and the Wintersmith's longing
to become human are depicted on these delicate single colour
stamps. With a value of Half a Farthing, together they complete
the most common cost of local postage.

But that is not all. We are most proud and excited to announce
that the most coveted and sought-after Discworld Stamp will
appear in it's brand new form in a few lucky LBEs. Traditionally
one new triangle is released each year. It is the rarest of
Discworld Stamps and this years issue is certainly no different.
Only five hundred of this new $5 Hubwards Gate Blue Triangle will
be released and only 10 sports released gradually throughout the
year will ever grace the collections of the lucky few. As this is
the first LBE in which the New Blue Triangle will appear, we
thought it only fitting that one sport should be placed at random
in this edition. So fingers crossed and happy stamping.

In other news, we would like your say for the Discworld Stamp of
Year 2010 thread on our forum. You can find more information and
have your say at the link below:
viewtopic.php?f=5&t=16197

The Ramtops Regional Post Summer and Winter stamps will be made
available as sheets and single stamps to buy next week along with
a brand new Green Cabbage Trading Scheme item - Is there any
sound more satisfying than a fresh flatfish hitting the door mat?
Find out soon, with more details will be available on this item
very shortly.

As ever we hope you're all well and enjoying the nipping of toes
by old jack frost.

All the best,
The Cunning Team
